Role overview:

The National Maternity and Perinatal Audit (NMPA) is a national audit that began reporting in 2017.

The NMPA evaluates the quality of care received by women and babies cared for by hospital services in England, Wales and Scotland.

The aim of the NMPA is to assess the organisation of maternity services as well as to provide timely, high quality data that compares the care provided and outcomes achieved by providers of maternity care across a range of audit measures.

The Audit is funded by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP).

It is part of the Centre for Quality Improvement and Clinical Audit at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG).

It is led by a partnership of the RCOG, Royal College of Midwives, Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (responsible for clinical leadership) and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Department for Health Services Research and Policy (responsible for methodological leadership).

In order to initiate a clinically meaningful and methodologically robust audit that produces results in an efficient and timely manner and which guides quality improvement initiatives at local and national level, the Audit is expected to:

  • Deliver a prospective clinical audit that produces a framework for continuous monitoring of processes and outcomes of maternity services using a comprehensive set of performance indicators
  • Carry out a flexible programme of periodic timelimited, topicspecific audits that is responsive, timely, efficient and able to address a variety of topics

In the time since the commencement of the Audit significant achievements have already been made, including an interactive webtool complete with methodologically robust clinical audit results which can be used by clinicians, policymakers, commissioners and women to reflect on maternity care in Britain.

Additionally, reports have been published on pertinent topics such as inequalities by race and deprivation, multiple births and BMI.

High profile research outputs have also been produced and published by the team, with the senior leadership team playing a key role in driving this.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Clinical Lead for Midwifery to join our team. You will prove an expert midwife perspective on all the outputs of the audit.

Responsibilities:

  • To act in a senior clinical advisory capacity for the National Maternity and Perinatal Audit team.
  • To provide an expert midwife perspective on the Audit's design, implementation, analysis and communication of findings.
  • To provide senior clinical leadership for the Audit's Clinical Fellows, to respond to queries in a timely manner and to occasionally meet with them.
  • To identify and liaise with all professional bodies involved in maternity and perinatal care, and to represent the Audit at regional and national meetings and conferences.

How to apply:

- [We are only accepting applicants with a right to work in the UK; we are unable to sponsor people requiring a work visa]_
