**This job description refers to the main purpose and responsibilities of the post. It does not

**MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POST
**To liaise with the Service's Resilience & Planning, Operations, Training and other departments as
appropriate to carry out the function of the role.

To maintain an appropriate establishment of Auxiliary Reserve Operational and Control Firefighter
cadres in readiness for Industrial Action or any other requirement.

To support the Auxiliary Reserve during times of Industrial Action/Pandemic/Spate condition, which
will involve extended hours of duty, through providing a key liaison point.

To work with the Station Manager Resilience & Planning and the Joint Fire Control Training Station
Manager to co-ordinate Training and Operational Requirements.

Responsibility for the supervision and the direction of others through supporting HR processes,

acting as a point of contact.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
**Principle Duties

  • To manage and support the Auxiliary Reserve of South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
  • To provide all necessary administrative and logístical support to the Auxiliary Reserve thereby
resolving day to day issues both during periods of operational deployment and otherwise.


  • To manage the availability of the Auxiliary Reserve for quarterly training, driver training and all
other training requirements and where necessary.


  • To manage the skill sets of the Auxiliary Reserve in order to maintain consistency of
standards and by liaison with the appropriate Station Manager to ensure training

  • To ensure the maintenance of training records for the Auxiliary Reserve are current and
appropriate for Auxiliary Reserve competence requirements, training records shall be
recorded by means of PDRpro and BMIS.


  • To provide information and reports to the Resilience and Planning Team, Payroll and Human
Resources as appropriate to facilitate payment and situation reporting of the Auxiliary staff.


  • To actively assist in the preparation of the Auxiliary Reserve in the event of deployment for
industrial Action or for other operational need and being available for an extended period
beyond the deployment timescale.


  • To be actively involved in recruitment processes, as required.
  • To support the delivery of training to the Auxiliary Reserve cadre, through attendance at
training courses locations as required.


  • To maintain a professional and productive relationship with any third-party contractor
engaged by the Service to provide Command Support and Resilience.


  • To understand the limitations of the Auxiliary Reserve with regard to responding to
emergencies.


  • To oversee the Health, Safety & Wellbeing of the Auxiliary Reserve Firefighters including
sickness reporting processes.


  • To promote the role of the Auxiliary Reserve within the Service.
  • To liaise and serve as the point of contact for all service departments in relation to the
Auxiliary Reserve including Human Resources, Payroll, and Stores due to the unique position
of the Auxiliary Reserve within the Service.


  • Due to the unique nature of the role within the organisation, the main place of work is SWFRS
Headquarters, although regular commuting to Joint Fire Control, Cardiff Gate Training Centre
and Abercarn Fire Station is required, working arrangements are by agreement with the
Group Manager Resilience and Planning.


  • Due to the nature of the role, it is necessary to be cognisant of the primary employment
requirements of the members of the Auxiliary Reserve and thus be flexible and prepared to
work periods of unsocial hours. This includes frequent weekend working as required for
quarterly training events.


  • To report to the Group Manager, Resilience and Planning - Operational Risk Management.
  • To attend Industrial Action/Business Continuity Management Meetings.
