WHAT TO EXPECT


The Group Financial Accounting team is responsible for specialist accounting and financial reporting across all JLR operational and corporate teams.

As the Head of Financial Accounting for Operations you'll have a strong network and work closely with the Finance Leadership Team, Operational team, Group legal entities and Operations, the Parent Corporate Reporting (Tata Motors Limited "TML") and Group auditors to enhance the quality & effectiveness of reporting events.


This role is a great opportunity to gain insight into the key drivers of JLR's strategy and operational change with significant engagement at the JLR executive leadership level.

With a focus on driving quality and value to reporting, proactively managing and continually improving all aspects of technical accounting, controls and compliance in external & internal reporting.


THE ROLE
Key Responsibilities


The Head of Financial Accounting roles are leading teams critical to the completeness and accuracy of JLRs financial reporting and implementing process improvement.


The scope of the role covers:

  • Developing and leveraging an understanding of the operational teams' strategies and focus (i.e. what's new, unusual or going wrong) to identify key areas of reporting risks and judgements.
  • Proactively collaborate to provide reporting insight on new strategic areas, business change or areas of complexity to drive quality and "value add" reporting.
  • Review methodologies and calculations connected with the most significant accounting areas, often including management estimates and judgements.
  • Facilitate engagement and accountability in functional reporting by providing timely management reporting data to help support business performance.
  • Effective management of issues with key stakeholders (relevant operational JLR team, Group Auditors, TML, etc) through identification, investigation and resolution of technical accounting matters
  • Driving performance targets and KPIs with the Group Accounting Director and Direct Reports, monitoring process performance
Key Performance Indicators

  • Drive "value add" financial statement reporting with focus on validations and forecasts, risk assessing for key accounting judgements.
  • Build strong working relationships with the functional teams to drive accountability and quality reporting.
  • Minimize risk of late adjustments / surprises
  • Simplification and accuracy of accounting and reporting, working with stakeholders including improve insight and validation of results (internal and external)
  • Strong "radar" for proactive identification and appropriate accounting treatment for changes in business as well as new accounting standards.
  • Financial or control issues identified from external and internal audit processes.

  • Timeliness and efficiency of period close activities of new activities and processes.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Experience in finance senior leadership roles in multinational, multifunction organisations.
- "Big 4/10" accountancy firm experience in assurance function.

  • Previous leadership of large financial reporting teams.
  • Strong accounting technical expertise, including IFRS.
  • Extensive knowledge of working in a key control matrix environment.
  • Ability to present information clearly to different levels of management /nonfinance stakeholders with appropriate detail.
  • Ability to partner with business and influence effectively.
  • Strong technical and practical knowledge and experience with International Financial Reporting Standards as well as strong accounting base.
  • Experience developing and leading teams in the area of continuous improvement and performance excellence in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide team with a clear sense of direction.
  • Ability to create simple solutions to complex problems.
  • Facilitation skills to help teams solve problems, devise solutions, build teamwork.
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of various business disciplines (finance, operations, technical, administrative, etc.).


  • Professional Accountancy qualification

  • IFRS expertise required, Public Limited Company reporting and / or SEC experience desired
