Description

To assist the CSSD Management team with the day to day management of the Sterile Services Department including endoscope decontamination.


To assist the Production and Decontamination Manager in the running of the Sterile Services Department and to maintain the department's ISO/MDR accreditation.

  • Assisting the Production and Decontamination/ Managers and be responsible for the decontamination of medical devices through the CSSD.
  • Work within the CSSD Quality Management System and ISO 13485/Medical Device Regulations, Policies and Procedures
  • Liaising with all user departments on all matters pertaining to decontamination and sterilisation and providing advice where required.
  • Responsible for actively managing sickness absence and other HR duties including appraisals, recruitment and retention and assisting with any disciplinary and grievance issues.
  • Ensure the departmental Business Plan is communicated including the departmental objectives.
  • Participation in the following forums - Theatre/DCU Sisters Meetings/Endoscopy User Group (as required).
  • Completion/participation in staff briefings/meetings and any other departmental communications.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with the department's COSHH and Risk Assessments and keep Health & Safety records up-to-date.
  • Completion of all Quality Assurance testing and validation in line with HTM 01/01 and 01/06.
  • Record and monitor all testing/validation and report and investigate any discrepancies.
  • Ensure all incidents are reported via the Incident Reporting system and investigate as required.
  • Act as administrator for the traceability system and produce reports as and when required.
  • Work with the Team Leader for Quality and Compliance to help develop and improve the department's Quality Management System and maintain the department's ISO/MDR accreditation.
  • Work with management to achieve the departmental CIP target by controlling both staff and non-staff costs.
  • Monitor and develop the Departmental Performance Criteria
  • Seek out business opportunities by promoting the department's services.
  • Work with the Production and Quality Managers to improve quality and reduce non-conformances in line with the Departmental Performance Criteria.
  • Demonstrate commitment to IWL principles and flexible working patterns, to meet the needs of the service and staff.
  • Tackle discrimination and harassment, and promote equality and diversity in the workplace.
  • Reduce sickness absence, work place accidents; and promote zero tolerance on violence against staff.
  • Take responsibility for personal development and education and the development of a Personal Development Plan
  • Review training and development of all staff, so all staff have a personal development plan, and support staff in reaching their full potential as identified through the appraisal process.
  • Any other task relevant to Grade/Post.
