Your New Role:

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Electrical Mobile Authorised Person covering MOD housing across Scotland.

This is a mobile role working from home with visits to MOD domestic properties, additional works site visits, supply chain and Amey offices visits.

An Authorised Person (Electrical) plays an important part in Amey to ensure the Management and Operational Delivery of JSP375 Electrical requirements are being met by assessing engineers and then issues Skilled person registrations, checks that Safe Systems of work, Risk assessments & Method statements are in place and are being followed and also reviews the accuracy and quality of electrical work and associated Electrical installation certificates, Minor works certificates, EICR,s and all test results and information etc on them.


The standard hours of work are 37.5 Monday to Friday

You will be responsible for:


  • Assess the competence of prospective Skilled Persons in the supply chain before their appointment, issue SSOW documentation etc to suitable engineers to ensure suitably qualified and experienced operatives are directed to relevant tasks and review experience and performance regularly.
  • The practical implementation of JSP375 Volume 3 Chapter 3 Electrical requirements and checking that Safe Systems of works are being followed for the delivery of Additional Works, planned and response maintenance.
  • Ensure as far as reasonably practical that all persons within the Service Delivery Area observe the Electrical requirements of JSP37
  • Review Electrical Installation certification including EICR,s, Electrical Installation certificates and Minor works certificates etc.
  • Review Risk Assessments and Method Statements and, where required, issue safety programmes and Permits to Work.
  • Provide electrical technical support and advice to Amey site team, Supply Chain, DIO and end users where required.
  • Assist and visit Additional Works teams as required to ensure that all electrical works are completed to the required standards.
  • Review site risk registers, notify Management of any defects on equipment or systems and contribute to risk meetings as required.
  • Liaise closely with Authorising Engineers and take ownership of personal training plan, familiarisation and knowledge across all sites within the Service Delivery Area, maintain accurate records within personal log book for site attendance and activities undertaken.
  • Identify opportunities on establishments that will support the MoD's carbon reduction targets.

We want to hear from you if you have:
Experience in Domestic electrical installation and maintenance work, strong Electrical testing and certification background and knowledge Safe Systems of work etc including:

  • You are a qualified Electrician and hold 18th edition qualification and City & Guilds Testing, Inspection and Certification such as 2391 or 2394 & 2395 etc with a strong electrical understanding of low voltage electrical systems within domestic properties
  • Good working knowledge of BS7671 as amended and all associated Guidance notes related to electrical work in typical domestic properties.
  • Understands EICR documents and can review observations and defect codes following the Electrical Safety First Best Practice Guide 4 document or NAPIT Codebreakers etc.
  • Competent in testing & inspection and using electrical installation test equipment.
  • Competent in understanding and reviewing Electrical installation certificates and Electrical minor works certificates etc
  • Would suit ex NICEC Qualified Supervisor or someone experienced in Electrical Testing and certification.
  • Previous APLV experience is not essential as full training will be given.
