X-ray Imaging Software Internship - Oxford, United Kingdom - Adaptix

Description
Description:
The Company
MEDICAL
Medical imaging helps patients by enabling early and accurate diagnosis. However, 2D X-rays can be inconclusive as they give a fundamentally limited view of our 3D bodies.
3D images are possible with CT scanners but these are much more expensive, give a high dose of radiation and moving a critically ill patient to a scanner can be labour-intensive and risky.
At Adaptix we are helping make 3D imaging more accessible to the people who need it by producing mobile flat-panel X-ray systems that can be brought to patients giving low-cost, low-dose imaging.
NDE
In addition to our medical products, we also have non-healthcare wing focused on non-destructive evaluation.
The NDE team specialise in electronics and composites inspection products, all revolving around transformative 3D X-ray capability at circa 250x faster, 100x lighter, and 10x lower cost than traditional 3D (Computed Tomography (CT)) X-ray.
It's an exciting, transformative business developing products for a capability that doesn't currently exist.Internship Opportunity:
Each year we recruit and develop talented, motivated, self-directed students to join our prestigious summer internship programme.
Our interns have an opportunity to contribute to real-world projects with a high impact on our mission and in support of our medical or NDE technologies.
We are looking for high-caliber, challenge-driven engineers, physicists and software engineers/mathematicians with strong programming skills and a desire to lead a discrete project over the 10 weeks.
Possible projects include:
- Automatic identification of optimal imaging planes for extraoral 3D veterinary dental Xray scans
- Rocking MIPs (maximumintensity projections) of 3D orthopaedic Xray scans
- Creating/maturing tools to automatically analyse images from our systems inspecting electronics and composites.
- Developing methods for noise reduction to improve image quality and reduce radiation dose for our systems for detecting safety critical failures in electronics or composites.
- Adding an inhouse automated 3D measuring capability to optical inspection.
In all cases, you have an opportunity to make a significant real-world contribution and work with a bright and creative team.
- Strong analytical and problemsolving skills
- Solid experience in software programming, especially Python, and in running scientific software programs.
- Experience of thinking through image analysis problems e.g. use of advanced software like ImageJ, Matlab, Scikitimage or OpenCV.
- Enjoy working as part of team
Internship Details:
Salary:
£20,319 pro rata per annum (plus 6.5 days of paid annual leave during a 10 week internship)
Internship Dates:
10th July 2023 to 15th September weeks in total)
Location:
The internship will be based at Begbroke Science Park or at our commercial office in Eynsham (just outside Oxford city centre).
About Adaptix:
Adaptix is transforming radiology by bringing to market an addressable Flat Panel X-ray Source (FPS) with integrated power supply and controls.
Our patent-protected technology enables fast movement-free 3D imaging at a significantly lower dose than CT.
The FPS is designed to allow 3D image formation by means of tomosynthesis using existing generations of Detectors and Workstations, allowing a system price point similar to that of current 2D systems.
Our vision is that our technology will enable 3D X-ray imaging to be cheaper, more widely available and truly portable throughout the world's clinics and hospitals.
