Overall Job Purpose:


As a Pumpman, you are responsible for the operation of various concrete pumps whilst also ensuring that equipment is kept clean and daily maintenance carried out as required.

If operating plant equipment, you must do so in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and procedures.


Main Responsibilities and Duties:


  • To check the concrete pumping plant and equipment delivered from the Depot is correct, in good condition and fit for use. Report any deficiencies and defects immediately to the Site Foreman
  • To be responsible for setting up rigid and flexible concrete lines, including ensuring that whipchecks and concrete clamp pins are fitted. Ensure that the lines are robustly protected from site traffic
  • To marshal concrete delivery wagons in and around the Concrete pumping set up
  • To ensure that every concrete delivery supplied for use is the correct mix
  • To take and test concrete samples in accordance with British Standards (e.g. slump and flow tests, and temperature tests). Keep accurate, contemporary field records
  • To only accept concrete that is supplied within project tolerances
  • To identify nonconforming concrete to Site management and await their instructions before its use or disposal
  • To sample, make and cure concrete cubes in accordance with British Standards, as required. Keep accurate contemporary field records to ensure traceability. Ensure cube storage facilities are serviceable and maintained
  • Ensure the Quality of the constructed Works complies with the agreed Specification and, where you are aware it does not, immediately raise potential Non-Conformities with the Works Supervisor
  • To operate the pump, static mixer drum and concrete lines within their limits in accordance with the Manufacturer's instructions. Never operate the machinery and/or lines with defective, disconnected or bypassed safety guards and/or devices
  • To regularly inspect the concrete lines for damage. Report damage to the Works Supervisor
  • To understand and implement the safe arrangements and procedures for blowing out concrete lines.
  • To carry out regular daily checks and maintenance of the concrete pump, static mixer drum, concrete lines and ancillary plant. Keep appropriate records, notifying defects to the Site Foreman
  • Keep the working area clean and tidy with suitable storage of fluids, oils and greases, Primapump, and concreting fittings.
  • Maintain the plant in good condition visually. Ensure that concrete is not allowed to build up in hoppers, concrete drums, underneath pumps and around stabilisers

General Company Responsibilities and Duties:


  • Personal and team adherence to existing working practices, methods and procedures, undertake relevant training and development activities and respond positively to new and alternative systems
  • Proactive approach to Health Safety and Environment and cooperate with the Company's HSEQ Manager with relevant Health, Safety and Environment legislation, policies, and processes
  • Maintain confidentiality and observe data protection and associated guidelines where appropriate

Desired Skills, Experience and Qualifications:


  • Good construction knowledge and experience
  • CSCS Card
  • Passport to Safety
  • CSCS Slinger Signaller
  • MEWP
  • CPCS Trailer Mounted Concrete Pump

Hours and Environment:

7:30am till 6pm. Minimum of 50 hrs per week.

Due to the nature of this role, employees are expected to be co-operative in working outside their normal hours as necessary to cope with varying situations and workloads.
