Description

Reporting into the Head of Supply Chain and Procurement, this role is a key function within the team, responsible for creating supply plans across specific business areas to meet service levels through collaboration with the wider business.

With an outstanding ability to navigate across short, medium and long-term needs, responding very quickly to internal and external demands to deliver across all the planning horizons.


The Materials Planner & Buyer will be a champion of our internal procurement systems, using continuous improvement and digital solutions to help support the key deliverables.

Armed with a problem-solving mindset and nimble with technology, the Materials Planner & Buyer will practice a solve it once and for all approach to enable time to be spent on value adding activities.


Working closely with site operations, procurement, and the project delivery teams to ensure an effective flow of information and operational execution.


KEY ACTIVITIES

Planning

  • Deliver master plans (including capacity considerations) and material requirement plans
  • Attend the daily planning meetings
  • Maintain part planning data e.g. lead times, MOQ's, confirmed delivery dates and pricing
  • Work closely with the Product Line Managers
  • Implement an integrated tactical and strategic planning tool
  • Develop short, medium, and longrange supply plans for items produced internally and externally
  • Deliver supply plans to support all Business Areas with an effective planning process
  • Ensure accurate information is communicated to key stakeholders regarding constraints/opportunities versus the plan
  • Report on nonavailability of materials and potential shortages and provide an action plan to alleviate supply issues
  • Accountable to conduct the monthly Supply Review as part of the procurement planning cycle, through efficient coordination with the Business Unit stakeholders, consolidating the supply position and providing an accurate representation of stock availability and supply situation

Buying

  • Buying of materials and parts for the production schedules and material supply services in accordance with the demand requirements
  • Participate in make Versus buy and reengineering projects
  • Assist with the onboarding of new suppliers which could lead to cost savings and improved quality
  • Ensure engineering changes are addressed with supplier where required
  • Deal with endtoend shipping of goods arriving from outside of UK (mainly Europe)
  • Liaise and create relationships with key suppliers

Stock Management

  • Review and manage requests for incremental stock versus the plan and ability to support
  • Work directly with the Business Units to understand SKU risks and constraints and manage this back
  • Maintain the integrity of system data e.g. lead times, MOQ's, confirmed delivery dates, pricing and stocking policies
  • Minimise stock holding without impacting production plans or material supply agreements

Process Improvement

  • Ongoing development of the purchasing systems and ordering process
  • Become a Sage 200 Key User of the purchasing & inventory modules
  • Support Business Units and sites to establish best practice standards, ways of working and associated metrics to provide transparency on performance
  • Support the Head of Supply Chain and Procurement in the development and maintenance of documented Supply procedures and continuous improvement of planning processes
  • Supporting life cycle portfolio review to ensure supply plans are adapting alongside the internal and external influences, ensuring the plans deliver operational efficiencies and improvements
  • Achievement of KPIs

KEY SKILLS

Essential

  • Working towards CIPS qualification
  • Experience of working as a Buyer within a purchasing & supply chain function
  • Knowledge of supply planning and inventory management processes and protocols
  • Experience in Supply Chain, including hands on experience in a materials planning role
  • Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and their methodology
  • Solid knowledge of data analysis, inventory management and forecasting techniques
  • An analytical mind with strong attention to detail
  • Outstanding organisational and problemsolving skills
  • Excellent IT skills particularly Excel

Desirable

  • Previous experience with Sage 200
