Job Description and Person Specification for Early Years Practitioner
Reports to:
Pre-school Manager
Main responsibilities and activities:
To work as a member of a team to provide at all times a safe, caring, stimulating environment for the children, in line with The Early Years Foundation Stage.
To provide a wide variety of activities for the children that is suitable to their individual stages of development within the Forest School ethos.
To build positive relationships with parents and children.
To ensure the maintenance of adequate standards of cleanliness and hygiene. This includes changing nappies and toilet training.
To undertake certain domestic jobs within the pre-school eg. cleansing of equipment etc and the cleaning of rooms. Ensuring the pre-school is kept clean and tidy.
To record accidents/incidents on baby's days software.
To accompany small groups of children to the surrounding green spaces.
To assist in the provision of support and guidance to students on placement.
To attend staff meetings and parents evenings.
To assist with serving the children's lunches, and clearing away, as and when necessary.
To participate in staff training and annual assessments of progress.
To ensure that all policies/procedures and risk assessments are read, understood and adhered to.
To respect the confidentiality of all information received.
To carry out any other duties requested by the Manager, that may reasonably be expected from a Childcare Practitioner.
To uphold the pre-school's standards at all times both within work hours and outside.
Person Specification for Early Years Practitioner
Essential Criteria
Minimum Level 3 qualification in Childcare or equivalent.
Paediatric First Aid
Previous experience of caring for, or working with children aged 0-5 in a voluntary or paid capacity.
Knowledge of the EYFS
Empathy and understanding of children under five.
Excellent verbal and communication skills with children and parents.
Ability to keep clear and accurate records.
Excellent organisational skills.
Calm and caring nature
Ability to work as part of a team.
Able to work on your own initiative.
Personal Qualities
Reliable, enthusiastic, and flexible.
A commitment to quality in all areas, with a high level of motivation and enthusiasm.

Desirable Criteria
Forest school level 1, 2 or 3
Food Hygiene Certificate
Knowledge or practical experience of Forest schools.
Knowledge or experience of Baby's Days Software
