The Head of Medical Workforce is the Trust's specialist and professional lead for medical staffing, recruitment, and talent acquisition.

The post holder has strategic management responsibility for the development and delivery of the long term medical workforce strategy to meet the current and future workforce requirements of the organisation.


The Head of Medical Workforce will use highly developed specialist knowledge and experience of complex medical staffing terms and conditions and national policy/best practice to lead workforce strategies.

The post holder acts as the Trust lead for medical workforce matters and provides strategic business focused advice to Chief of Services, the Chief Medical Officer and other senior leaders.


The post holder will ensure that doctors, managers and medical leaders have access to high quality medical HR services and that customer experience, innovation and improvement is a core component of their work.


The post holder will be required to develop and deliver long term strategic business plans/policy that supports their service and the Trust.

This will require the interpretation of national and regional policy and strategy.

From time to time due to the needs of the service, we may ask you to flexibly undertake other duties that are consistent with your role and banding, including project work, internal job rotation and absence cover.

Experience of medical Staffing would be an advantage, however, what's more important is that you can demonstrate experience of managing HR or medical education within an NHS setting and have an interest in progressing your career in medical staffing.

You will need to demonstrate an excellent understanding of service improvement and have the skills to manage teams to deliver quality and customer focused services.

An aptitude to extend your knowledge of medical staffing processes, policy and practice and the ability to manage a busy operational HR service is essential.

The Head of Medical Workforce is a great opportunity to help shape and improve our medical workforce department.

As Head of Medical Workforce, you will be involved with a combination of service delivery and developing medical staffing policy in a Trust employing over 2,400 medical staff.

Forging excellent relationships with our Chiefs of Service, you will use your leadership to deliver a first-class medical workforce service for our medical leaders, doctors, and managers.

Benefitting from the support of a Chief People Officer who has a passion for medical HR, you will work to improve medical staffing systems and processes and lead the delivery of quality services.

A credible individual, you will have the ability to build strong relationships with the consultant body and operational management teams to ensure that you can fully contribute to the deployment and management of our medical workforce.
