Description

The post holder will be the principal data scientist in the UKRI funded REMADE project (Roman and Early Medieval Alloys Defined), Department of Archaeology, University of Reading.

The appointee will work alongside archaeologists, museum curators, and chemists to help provide a robust data-led framework for telling new stories about Roman and Early Medieval metal in the UK.

We are working with key partners from across UK heritage, including the British Museum, National Museums of Scotland, Oxford Archaeology and MOLA.

We are creating the first comprehensive overview of copper-alloy metallurgy across the first millennium AD.

New patterns will be identified by chemically analysing several thousand objects, and linking these with regional object sequences, findspots and local stories.

Therefore, we are looking to recruit someone with proven experience in some of our key areas:
the development of databases, use of GIS, statistical modelling, and/or novel visualisation approaches.

You will have:

  • A PhD or significant professional experience in data science or related field
  • Proven experience in a relevant data science field
  • A track record of successful collaborations
  • An enthusiastic approach to communicating science and working across disciplines.
