We are looking for an inspiring Head of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) & French to join the MFL Department on a permanent basis to run the French Department as well as to run the whole MFL Department.

The Head of MFL & French will be responsible for the day-to-day co-ordination of the MFL Department and the French Department, as well as its strategic management in consultation with the other MFL leaders and the Deputy Head (Teaching & Learning).

The MFL Department at LWC is organised into the French and Spanish Departments, each with its own Head of Department.

We are a strong team of 11 full
- and part-time staff, including a French assistant and a Spanish assistant, and we work cohesively and positively together. We follow the AQA course in French and Spanish for both GCSE and A Level and we have our own CLIL-inspired courses in the 1st and 2nd Form.

As Head of MFL you will be responsible for the smooth running of the Languages Department, as well as its strategic management in consultation with the other language leaders and the Deputy Head (Teaching & Learning).

The Head of MFL also coordinates our successful extra-curricular Mandarin programme, with beginner and GCSE courses being delivered after school twice a week by our peripatetic Mandarin teacher.

The Head of MFL will lead the strategic direction and development of MFL at LWC, creating a positive climate and a shared understanding of the importance of MFL within LWC, and of the short-, medium

As Head of French, you will be responsible for the day-to-day co-ordination of the French Department, as well as its strategic management in consultation with the Head of Spanish and the Deputy Head (Teaching & Learning).

You will also be expected to teach French at KS3, KS4, and KS5, and be confident in preparing pupils for Oxbridge.

All pupils are expected to study a modern foreign language to GCSE, and many choose to study both French and Spanish.

We are extremely successful, with a healthy number of students currently studying at A Level, despite the national trends in the take-up of languages.

We offer a range of extra-curricular events, such as regular film evenings and theatre visits, and our languages prefects are involved in many departmental and whole-school initiatives.

We organise a biennial homestay visit to Montpellier in France for our GCSE pupils, an U6 work experience week for our A-Level French group, a biennial homestay visit to Granada in Spain for our GCSE and A-Level pupils and annual KS3 French and Spanish trips on rotation.

The French Department has also had some recent success in national translation competitions such as the Anthea Bell competition.

Each classroom is equipped with wireless internet access and a Smart TV. Pupils access resources via their own devices and teaching is supported by Microsoft OneNote.

There is a central bank of resources, a staff area and a library space containing a range of books for general reading and for reading around A-Level topics.

You will be expected to carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require and in accordance with the College's policies under the direction of the Headmaster.

Teaching at LWC requires that members of the academic staff be willing to contribute fully to the life of the College.

This includes tutoring, co-curricular involvement, boarding house duties, cover duties and attending parents' evenings for the year groups taught. Liaison with parents is included in the sphere of the teacher's responsibilities.
