The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is an executive non-departmental public body of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.


Driven by government's aim for clean, healthy, safe, productive and biologically diverse oceans and seas, MMO's purpose is to protect and enhance our precious marine environment and support UK economic growth by enabling sustainable marine activities and development.

We are the independent regulator for England's seas, professionally delivering service-focussed outcomes for our customers.


We are a team of around 400 people and combine our Newcastle upon Tyne and London operations with a local presence around the English coastline in Brixham, Beverley, Harwich, Hastings, Lowestoft, North Shields, Hayle, Plymouth, Poole, Portsmouth, Preston, Scarborough, Shoreham, Whitehaven.

We also have colleagues based in Defra offices including Bristol, Cambridge and York where we share office space.

Job description


This is a really exciting time to join the MMO as we strive to enable marine development for the benefit of people, the economy and the environment, at a time when demand for use of the marine space is greater than ever before.


There are two posts to cover the role of Head of Marine Licensing Operations, post holders will work closely to ensure consistency and resilience across the team.

You will ensure effective delivery through others, whilst providing operational leadership to the casework team.

You will work collaboratively with the Head of Marine Licensing Quality and Support to ensure the optimum performance of the Licensing case work team.

You will be integral to ensuring day-to-day working relationships with our primary advisors is effective to ensure efficient service delivery in line with performance measures.

Leading on the continuous improvement of the service to develop, adapt and deliver accordingly.
