Met Programme 2023:

Video & Audio Journalist

Location:
Dublin or Belfast

(Hybrid office working will be available after an onboarding period)

Contract length: 2 years

This is an exciting opportunity to take your first steps on a career in journalism and gain valuable experience in video and audio reporting.

You will learn how to develop your passion and become a talented, resourceful journalist able to spot great video or podcast ideas and act on them.

Working closely with senior editorial managers, group video and audio producers, presenters and reporters, you will contribute to building our video and audio strategy and increasing audience engagement.

Learning and development on the job

will include:

Creating innovative ways of telling stories in video or podcast
Researching guests and writing running orders and scripts
Sourcing archive clips and music to bring stories to life
Stepping in front of the mic as a podcast/video reporter
Helping to develop new shortform methods of audio/visual storytelling
Generating additional social media content to drive audiences to our platforms
Collaborating with editors, sound designers, contributors and hosts

Skills we would like you to have are:

Passion for journalism and audio/visual storytelling
Ability to spot a news story
Highly organised and strong communication skills
Ability to work calmly under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Selfstarting and shows initiative
Effective collaboration and a true team player
Good working knowledge of the news agenda across current affairs, politics, business, entertainment and sport
Ability to use social media and other digital tools to promote stories

Experience we would like you to have:

Some experience of basic recording and editing tools and software is desired, however we don't want formal qualifications to block or sway our selection.

We will not be asking about your schooling or qualifications - it's your passion we are interested in.

As someone who is passionate about journalism, it would be beneficial for us to be able to see some examples of your work.

This could be in the form of any video or audio packages you have published online (even self-published), through tiktok, or a personal blog.
