We are currently looking to recruit several band 3 Cardiac Support Officers. The role will support the cardiac physiologists and administration team in our busy Technical Cardiology department at NUH. This is a new hybrid role, combining some of duties of the assistant technical officers with administration duties. The successful applicants will work across both the Queens and City campuses.


You must be self-motivated with a flexible approach and be able to demonstrate good communication skills, working independently and as part of the team.

We would expect the successful applicant to have experience in a health care setting and/or an administration role.

Good written and verbal communication skills are required, as a key part of this role is, interacting with patients and staff at various levels across the trust.

The successful applicant will be responsible for providing routine technical and administrative support. This is an exciting time to join our team. We are currently working through a large service development project and relocation. This new role is pivotal to this service improvement. You will work alongside our experienced multi-disciplinary team of Technical Assistants, Cardiac Physiologist and Doctors.

The Technical Cardiology Department at NUH performs over 40,000 Diagnostic tests each year.


As part of a team of technical support and administration staff, the post holder will perform a range of technical support and administration duties associated with cardiology technical non-invasive services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Perform routine cardiac diagnostic tests

Provide technical support to the Cardiac Physiologists, as well as work along side assistant technical officers and the administration team


Utilise the department IT patient database (Cardiovascular Information Systems - CVIS) to maintain waiting lists, and produce test reports in line with department protocols.

Receive and process e.referrals from NUH Specialties and GP practices. Utilise the Trust Medway PAS system to retrieve patient diagnostic referrals.

Utilise DHR when required to extract data pertinent to the referral process. Liaise with Clinicians, Physiologists, nursing staff and other staff grades, in the organisation of patient tests.

Assist with the administrative needs of the Technical Manager. Ensure an overviewing of patients who are waiting for tests, and assist when required. Ensure updating of skills in Basic Life Support, in order to identify and deal with the immediate emergency situation.

Attend training / updates related to the post. Any other duties that may reasonably be required. To assist in the smooth running of the department, to promote its reputation and uphold its policies.

Work on both City and Queens Campus when required.

Training/Qualifiactions

Essential criteria

  • 4 GCSE's or equivalent including English and Math.
Desirable criteria

  • Basic Life support
  • Microsoft Qualification
Experience

Essential criteria

  • Previous healthcare work experience.
  • Previous work with the general public
  • Familiar with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
Desirable criteria

  • Voluntary care work
  • Experience of hospital systems
Communication and relationship skills

Essential criteria

  • Ability to work under pressure and escalate issues to senior colleagues/line managers on all aspects of the service
  • Good patient care skills, being able to communicate with patients, staff and visitors.

Salary:
The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
