In the role of a tutor, you will have the incredible opportunity to work one-on-one with a young person with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), under the guidance of our lead tutor.

While prior experience in special education or within the educational field is desirable, it is not essential.

Here's what we offer:


  • Fulltime position: 38.25 hours per week, 42 weeks per year

Position Details:


  • Job Title: Tutor (Teaching Assistant)
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:45 am to 5:00 pm (4:30 pm finish on Fridays)
  • Direct Supervisor: Class Leader and Teacher in Charge
  • School Year: Approximately 42 weeks across three terms
  • Location: Conveniently situated just 20 minutes from Haywards Heath, West Sussex
  • Probation Period: Six months

Driving is desirable due to the location, but the school have a carpooling scheme for commuters from Crawley, East Grinstead and surrounding towns.

Key Responsibilities:

Educational Provision:


  • Conducting personalized teaching sessions with assigned pupils on a daily basis
  • Collecting and accurately recording data on program delivery, as instructed by the Class Leader or Lead Tutor
  • Assisting and guiding pupils in engaging in extracurricular activities during the school day
  • Progressing towards fulltime oneonone teaching and taking on keyworker responsibilities
  • Participating in the supervision of indoor/outdoor playtime and lunch on a rotational basis
  • Contributing to the development, organization, and maintenance of appropriate curricular and teaching materials
  • Actively participating in staff meetings and training sessions
  • Providing personal care, when necessary, such as toileting, nappy changing, and feeding, for pupils within the school
  • Collaborating with a classroom team to provide behaviourbased instruction to children with autism and related communication disorders
  • Undertaking other relevant duties as required

Safeguarding and Welfare:


  • Reporting welfare concerns accurately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) through the school POD
  • Adhering to risk assessments, behaviour plans, and specific teaching strategies for supported/taught pupils
  • Understanding and implementing all school policies, with a focus on curricula, health and safety, child protection, and behaviour management

Communication and Record Keeping:


  • Contributing to home/school liaison and preparing written reports for key students
  • Regularly updating the Earwig system with evidence of pupil progress
  • Actively participating in team meetings and offering ideas for enhancing student learning

Professional Development:


  • Actively engaging in the probationary period, ensuring that competencies and targets are met within the agreed timeframe


During your induction, which includes essential training on Child Protection, Fire Safety, and Health & Safety, you will gradually assume teaching duties in the classroom.

Throughout the probationary period, you will receive continuous support and supervision, enabling you to thrive in your role:


  • Regular monitoring and ongoing feedback on your performance and progress
  • Comprehensive guidance during the initial two weeks, with overlaps involving your Class Leader or Lead Tutor to familiarize you with specific aspects of student programs, teaching procedures, and behaviour management
  • Weekly overlaps during the following four weeks to provide further support and feedback
  • Concentrated focus on getting to know individual students and implementing the basic principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) in your teaching, including reinforcement, prompting, and fostering language opportunities
  • A review of your progress after two months, during which you'll receive guidance, identify areas requiring assistance, and set objectives for the next
