The Boeing Test & Evaluation UK Flight Operations Safety Lead will report to the Chief Pilot and work closely with other Boeing and non-company senior leaders.

You will be the primary air safety focal for Boeing flight operations in the UK, including fixed wing, vertical lift and uncrewed.

You will undertake development and in-service SMS activities, predominantly in support of the UK flying organisation, but additionally for the wider BDUK and BT&E Safety Management Systems.


Position Responsibilities:


  • Provide Air Safety advice to various Boeing leadership teams
  • Maintain efficiency of ASMS and report to senior managers
  • Support to Air System Safety Case management team
  • Lead Hazard Working Groups to develop and maintain Risk Registers
  • Mentor team members in SMS including providing formal training
  • Conduct Safety Investigations within both the flying and associated business units
  • Monitor and Report Air Safety performance using metrics and suitable formats
  • Develop and supervise Emergency Response procedures
  • Collaborate with Boeing Quality teams for conduct of Assurance activities
  • Generation and maintenance of Regulatory Compliant Safety Products
  • Horizon scanning to ensure best practice is applied including membership and attendance of safety committees and conferences

Essential proficiencies:


  • Pilot qualifications and proficiencies
  • Formal Safety Management Systems training and experience
  • Solid understanding of the UK Military Defence Air Environment and associated Regulation
  • Experience with the use of safety tools such as Risk Registers, Bow Tie Diagrams and Air System Safety Cases
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead on the planning of work, and develop/use meaningful metrics to evaluate safety status and provide performance visibility
  • Ability to effectively identify and implement opportunities to improve strategies, processes and project plans
  • Ability to identify help needed and coordinate with the appropriate leaders and team members
  • Proven experience of interacting directly with senior leadership/management
  • The role will have significant UK MoD customer, supplier and wider Boeing interfaces and therefore a person who is diplomatic whilst being strong minded is essential

Desirable proficiencies:


  • Aircrew experience in both rotary and fixedwing air systems (including Uncrewed).
  • Completed or working towards a formal qualification in Safety Management Systems
  • SMS formal auditor/evaluation training/experience
  • Experience using the UK MoD's ASIMS for inservice occurrence monitoring and trending
  • Safety audit experience and/or training
  • Emergency Response Planning experience
