We are seeking a committed, enthusiastic and motivated Active for Life Officer to support the delivery of our new citywide Sport & Physical Activity Strategy 'Let's Get Moving Brighton & Hove'.

This is an exciting time to join the Healthy Lifestyles team within Brighton & Hove's Public Health team. The launch of the city's new 10-year sport and physical activity strategy outlines our ambitions to make Brighton & Hove a city where everyone has the opportunity, the encouragement and the environment to move more, live well and be healthy, becoming one of the most active cities in the country

About the role:


We are based in the Health and Adult Social Care Directorate and work across the Council and beyond to influence the wider determinants of health.

We have strong and productive relationships with organisations across the city including local sports clubs/ providers, Active Sussex, local community & voluntary sector and other city organisations.


As an Active for Life Worker, you will:

  • Understand the benefits of moving more and can convey this to others.
  • Understand the principles and practices of equality and inclusion which form the basis of the work of the team
  • Has a Level 2 coaching/instructing qualification in a sport and physical activity discipline (minimum) or a sports/physical activity related degree/diploma
  • Coordinate the delivery of activity programmes (for children and adults), local events and engagement workshops
  • Establish strong and influential partnerships with stakeholders from a range of sectors
  • Is a multitasker with good planning and organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Can communicate effectively with people on all levels in to help influence positive behaviours and actions
  • Is selfdirected and can work independently on your own projects
  • Be a proactive team player who is comfortable working with colleagues at all levels in a multidisciplinary team
