We are currently recruiting for an experienced Safeguarding and Attendance Officer to work closely in a strategic and operational capacity with the Designated Safeguarding Lead and our attendance officers.

The post holder will ensure effective and appropriate interventions are carried out to support student welfare, safeguarding and attendance. This will involve working alongside students and their families, as well as external agencies.

Salary:
£25,389 to £28,478 (FTE)


Working pattern:37 hours per week, Term Time plus one week of Inset


The post holder will work closely in a strategic and operational capacity with the Designated Safeguarding Lead and our attendance officers and will ensure effective and appropriate interventions are carried out to support student welfare, safeguarding and attendance.

This will involve working alongside students and their families, as well as external agencies.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • To work with the existing Attendance Officer on analysing attendance and punctuality trends and working with Deputy Headteachers on next appropriate steps as set out in the school's attendance policy.
  • To liaise with Student Development and Directors of Study in exploring factors which may be impacting on a pupil's attendance.
  • Meet with pupils and parents to establish the reasons for nonattendance/poor punctuality and agree a plan with appropriate strategies and timescales to tackle the issues.
  • Establish rapport and build respectful, honest, challenging and supportive relationships with pupils and their families.
  • Provide advice and guidance to parents/carers to reinforce their selfesteem and ability to provide good parenting.
  • To signpost families to sources of advice and guidance within the local community.
  • To carry out home visits, where required.
  • To liaise with Deputy Headteachers where it is felt referrals to external agencies are appropriate.
  • To record and produce minutes of attendance/safeguarding meetings.
  • Maintain accurate records which are shared with other colleagues as appropriate.
  • Work alongside the DSL to manage safeguarding concerns.
  • Comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, confidentiality and data protection.

Person Specification

CRITERIA

QUALIFICATIONS


Knowledge and skills equivalent to national qualifications level 3 preferably in social care, youth justice, education, youth work or a relevant field.


EXPERIENCE
Experience of working with children and families in the public, private or voluntary sector.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Ability to work as part of a team.

Ability to appropriately handle confidential information.

Ability to build rapport and challenging yet supportive relationships with pupils and their families.

Ability to facilitate and support families with parenting skills.

Ability to deal with difficult/sensitive situations.

Full driving licence.


KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of the parenting needs of children.

Knowledge of potential barriers to attendance and punctuality.

Understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding/child protection issues in a school setting.
