£120,000 - £125,000 base salary plus bonus

Our client is seeking to appoint a Managing Director to lead a growing business responsible for providing critical services to residents of Bristol.

This new role will require a person of integrity, passion, determination and resilience who, together with therelevant work experience and a track record of delivering outstanding results, is able to inspire and enable people to work together.

The Managing Director (MD) will lead the business to achieve significant objectives and is accountable for steering the delivery of all elements of the business, as well as ensuring the company is fit for the future.


Responsibilities will be split across 3core areas:
Waste and Recycling, Street Cleansing and Facilities Management.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working in partnership with company leaders and teams on the ground, striking a balance between long term strategic planning and driving initiatives to meet short term financial objectives
  • Proactively seeking external relationships and partnerships within the industry, positioning the company for future growth
  • Overseeing the people agenda, including sourcing, developing and retaining talent in a challenging market
  • Driving the business's mission through actions and continuous messaging to the team, aligning the teams' goals around achieving excellence and executing on core purpose
  • Implementing a culture and practice of continuous improvement and process improvement, including constant enhancement of existing business systems
  • Leading and managing a highly competent and deliveryfocused leadership team, to ensure business activities are delivered on time, and within budget
  • Managing relationships with key stakeholders
  • Promoting a collaborative culture across the leadership team and wider business to drive innovation, employee engagement, consistency of performance and knowledge sharing across teams
  • Managing, in close collaboration with the Transformation and Stakeholder Relations Director, the coordination and alignment of key internal and external engagements and communications to ensure consistency across stakeholders
  • Actively promoting and embedding Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) into the business and supporting all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI
  • Taking ownership of reporting and governance
  • Previous experience and knowledge in the waste management sector including knowledge of applicable laws
  • Senior management experience in the waste and resource management field additional FM expertise is advantageous
  • Strategic level commercial experience and achievements in waste management
  • Experience in leading and motivating crossfunctional teams to achieve results
  • Experience in delivering outputs in a complex delivery environment
  • Extensive experience of stakeholder management
  • Substantial experience of successful contract procurement, management and monitoring
  • An understanding of local authority operations and the challenges facing Councils
  • Proven experience leading transformational change, including structural and cultural change
  • Ambitious, innovative and results oriented, with the ability to provide instruction and support in line with business objectives, through evaluating data, assessing options, considering strategies and providing supporting rationales
  • Experience of effective financial management controls including managing budgets and overseeing robust, transparent financial reporting
  • The ability to create high performing diverse teams through a supportive, collaborative working culture
  • Experience of working in a political Local Authority (LA) environment is advantageous
  • Membership of relevant professional body e.g. CIWM desirable
