£22,702.00

Contract: 2 year fixed contract

Qualification & Experience:

No formal qualifications required but must have high emotional intelligence, resilience, and a passion to make a difference some experience of working within the homelessness sector is advantageous.


Genuine Occupational Qualification:

About Brave Spaces:
Brave spaces is a partnership between Encompass Southwest Women First in Northern Devon and Resilience Women CoLab in Exeter.

The aim of Brave spaces is to co-produce, test and refine a Trauma Resilience and stabilisation Hub Model approach to providing safe accommodation, mental health and wrap around support for women with complex needs at risk of homelessness due to domestic and sexual violence and abuse in Northern Devon and Exeter.


The two-year project builds on work done in the two current sites to establish and test a gender-sensitive, holistic, trauma-informed approach to working with women with complex lives and multiple disadvantages.


The project will work collaboratively with substance misuse and mental health services to upskill our workforce to be able to respond to generalist enquiries to ultimately provide an improved streamlined service to the women we support whilst reducing demand across the system and preparing our frontline teams for a new model of working in 2025.


The project will provide:
1) A safe accommodation offer.

The project teams in both areas will:
a.

Provide a single point of access and holistic wrap around support offer to women who find themselves homeless due to DSVA and to co-design and develop a trauma-resilience hub model with partners.

b.

Provide safe accommodation offer to women which includes:
i. Wrap around holistic support (including mental health support) ii. Specialist IDVA support. iii. Out of hours support (SPARK worker)

c. Provide Specialist psychologist support to women accessing support as part of their recovery in both areas.

2)

Pioneer Projects:

There will be 3 focus projects (a-c)in the first year and two cross cutting and longer term projects (d-e) which will improve life chances and outcomes for women.

a. Brave spaces for women apart from Children b. Brave spaces for young women c. Brave spaces for learning and change d. Improving equality of access to support (focus on protected characteristics) e. A women's centre in both areas.

3) An action learning community and stewardship group, the braves spaces Lead/s will work with the core team to establish the evaluation/learning group (Action Learning
Community) and the stewardship group, who will work in partnership with the operational team to achieve impact. Establish an action-learning community to gather evidence of learning to inform service and practice development. Also a stewardship group to respond to data and insights from learning collected, make recommendations and support system change. Provide specialist training to generalist workers
(substance misuse, mental health, trauma informed practice etc) and support gender informed practice in the wider system.


Develop a variety of toolbox training resources which can be shared across Devon which are based on need and co-designed by women accessing the services.

Key Duties

  • To be part of the women first team supporting women with complex multiple needs.
  • To work in close partnership with the Colab women's team lead in Exeter and facilitate regular project meetings to ensure we are meeting the Brave Space outcomes.
  • To build relationships and trust with both women and wider stakeholders
  • To lead on the pioneer projects across the 2 years: o Brave spaces for women apart from Children o Brave spaces for young women o Brave spaces for learning and change o Improving equality of access to support (focus on protected characteristics) o A women's centre in both areas.
  • To codesign and run fortnightly trauma informed HUB meetings (inperson & virtually) to support women to access mental health support and trauma stabilisation learning.
  • To codesign a 6 week trauma stabilisation program
  • Up-Skill the current workforce to deliver mental health support to women with complex needs.
  • To hold a small case load of women to provide advice and support.
  • To contribute to the learning and evaluation of the Brave Spaces proje
