Social Work Degree Apprenticeship

About the Role:


  • We are pleased to offer 2 Social Work Degree Apprentice roles for the September 2024 intake. As an apprentice, 80% of learning takes place on the job whilst a minimum of 20% off the job learning is achieved through attendance at University and completion of independent study.
Over the 36-month period of professional training the post holder will take on work of increasing responsibility and complexity according to their increasing range and depth of competence against the Social Work Degree Apprenticeship Standards, co-working statutory work as part of this in one of the following teams:

Complex Care
The Complex Care Team works with older people, people with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, or mental health problems.

We undertake Care Act 2014 assessments and support our residents to identify how they can best live their lives as independently as possible.

Working in the Complex Care Team offers the opportunity to work with diverse cohorts of people, providing variety and interest in your case load.

Hospital Integrated Discharge:


Hospital discharge staff work as part of an integrated team with health colleagues, supporting someone's journey out of the hospital back to their own home.

The Hospital integrated discharge team (HID) team makes a real difference in an individual's journey by assessing a client's strengths and choices using the Care Act framework.

We assess clients on the wards and in their own homes to achieve the right support required to ensure their care needs are met.

Contrasting Learning Experience

As the Social Work Degree is a generic qualification there is a requirement for Apprentices to complete a minimum 70 days in a contrasting service area - this will be co-ordinated and arranged in the second year of on-the-job learning.


  • Successful completion of the social work degree apprenticeship programme will provide an opportunity for career development leading to professional registration as a Social Worker.

Minimum entry requirements to the Kingston University BA (Hons) Social Work Integrated Degree Apprenticeship:
Satisfactory occupational health clearance;

  • Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) clearance (Enhanced);


GCSE English (normally English language) and mathematics grades 4-9 (or grade C or above for GCSEs taken before 2017); or equivalent qualification (e.g.

Functional Skills level 2 in numeracy and literacy).

  • AND any Learning at level 3 (or above) by qualification OR two years of verifiable and relevant work experience.

  • This post is considered by the authority to be a customerfacing position; as such it falls within scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers.
