We have an exciting opportunity within NHS Supply Chain for a Finance Accountant to join our Finance team.

What does a Finance Accountant do at NHS Supply Chain?
NHS Supply Chain are recruiting for a Finance Accountant.

This is an exciting opportunity deliver accurate internal reporting and analysis to internal and external stakeholders, to support timely decision making, and ensure the accurate delivery of externalreporting (statutory accounts, stakeholder and ONS reporting).

As a Finance Accountant you will ensure that, with the support of the Accounts Associates, numbers included in the general ledger for our significant Capital and Maintenance business are accurate, timely and can be supported.


  • Recording and reviewing transactions for relevant operating unit(s), ensuring accurate accounting with relevant supporting documentation, especially with regards to inventory reporting or contract reconciliations as appropriate
  • Maintain processes and controls to ensure all transactions are recorded accurately, timely and in accordance with agreed accounting standards
  • Ensuring all balance sheet accounts are supported and reconciled with working paper files
  • Production of monthly reporting to key stakeholders of all relevant P&L codes in accordance with relevant timetables, adding insight where relevant
  • Ensuring that transactions are accounted for correctly in terms of VAT and other relevant taxes
  • Ad hoc financial analysis and project support as required
  • Liaising with auditors as required, to provide necessary information and resolve queries
  • Demonstrate key analytical skills to help support business decisions in respect of projects and commercial matters
  • Maintain effective working relationships with auditors, NHSE, DHSC and professional advisors

What skills, qualifications and qualities do I need to be successful?:

  • A professional accountancy qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent)
  • Demonstrable postqualified experience within Financial Accounting
  • Core finance knowledge, with indepth awareness and understanding of accounting standards and technical guidance
  • Ability to produce and review working papers and reconciliations
  • Good attention to detail with ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload to meet agreed deadlines
