Description
As the Seagull continues to grow, we are seeking new technical operators for our busy programme of live events.

As a technical operator, you will be working on a wide range of shows, operating lighting and / or sound equipment.

You will work with visiting companies, helping them to set up and understanding their technical needs.

You will work with them to programme our lighting and sound system and then operate the equipment during their performance.

After the performance you will be responsible for helping to pack away equipment and set and ensure the building is secure at the end of the day.


The work involves operating at height and use of ladders as well as a reasonable level of responsibility - however full training will be provided.

Role and Context

  • To ensure the effective and successful operation of the Theatre with particular reference to all specialist equipment and technical aspects of productions.
  • To ensure all users of the theatre and productions receive appropriate support with technical matters
  • To ensure all theatre equipment is used appropriately and in accordance with health and safety regulations

Context
The Seagull Theatre is a small community enterprise operating as an arts venue in South Lowestoft.

The building provides both arts resources and a wider facility for community events, both during the day and in the evenings.


This role involves unsociable working hours and split shifts including regular evening and weekend work.

Hours of work will be variable on a weekly basis and undertaken by weekly agreement with the management

Principal Accountabilities
Undertake technical operation of Theatre equipment for productions

  • Act as Lighting or Sound Technician for specified productions
  • Liaise with visiting companies and other Theatre users to during the performance and Get In to ensure operation is in line with users wishes.
  • Provide technical support and information to enable theatre users to design and operate appropriate lighting and sound for productions
  • To design and amend lighting and sound plans for specified productions at the direction of the management
  • To rig, focus and prepare lighting equipment in accordance with the wishes of visiting companies/users.
  • To liaise with and support technical staff from visiting companies/users
  • To comply with all Health and Safety regulations.
  • To provide a professional, courteous and helpful response to all theatre users and volunteers in line with the ethos of a community venue.

Person Specification
-
Preferred
Knowledge and Relevant experience in operating Lighting or Theatrical design or Sound Equipment technical aspects of production

  • Level 2 English and Maths or equivalent
  • Flexibility and willingness to work unsocial hours including multiple evenings and weekends throughout the year
  • Ability to communicate High quality of written effectively both orally English and in writing
