JOB DESCRIPTION


St John's College School is seeking a Catering Assistant with to contribute to our high quality catering service which meets the needs of the pupils and the School.


You will be required to assist in the daily duties of the kitchen which will include salad and sandwich preparation, milk run to classes, lunch service, daily cleaning tasks and washing up duties, maintaining stock levels and taking deliveries.

More specifically, the role of the
Catering Assistant at St John's includes the following:

Catering Provision

  • To work alongside the catering team, assisting with the preparation of the salad bar and daily sandwiches.
  • To help in the preparation of dietary restricted meals under the guidance of management.
  • To organize and deliver the daily milk quota to classrooms.
  • To help ensure all meals are delivered on time without compromise.
  • To actively contribute new ideas into the kitchen to ensure that we continue to deliver quality.
  • To follow daily menus without compromise.
  • To ensure at key times in the day that the staff room is cleaned and stock replenished.
  • To help in the daily housekeeping duties of the kitchen.
  • To be available for extra works, both contracted and emergency cover.

People

  • At all times to lead by example, maintaining the highest levels of personal conduct, professional standards and bearing.
  • To treat others with respect and dignity at all times.

Health & Safety

  • To ensure compliance with agreed Health & Safety Policy and COSHH Regulations with regard to food, equipment, materials and general safety.
  • To ensure adherence to all procedures within the operations manual.
  • To ensure the safe operation of kitchen equipment at all times.
  • To ensure that all accidents and incidents are reported, including notifiable diseases.
  • To ensure the security of the catering area at all times.
  • To ensure that all catering personnel maintain high standards of cleanliness, personal hygiene and appearance.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Reliable, with impeccable timekeeping.
  • Excellent hygiene standards and an understanding of Health and Hygiene legislation.
  • A commitment to the school's educational ethos and aims.
  • Experience in a relevant catering position, is advantageous, but not essential
  • At least a Level 2 qualification in food handling, or the willingness to undertake training funded by the School.
  • A First Aid qualification or the willingness to undertake training funded by the School.
  • Proven team working skills, willing to assist others where needed.
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to show initiative in a busy environment.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Hours


This role is for 37 weeks of the year (34 weeks of term time plus a further 3 weeks outside of term time to be worked as directed).

Hours are 20 hours per week, 4 hours per day Monday to Friday 10.00am -2.00pm.

This generates an average paid working week of 24 hours.

You may be required to work evenings and Saturdays for special events such as Speech and Sports Day. You will also be expected to be available for major school events, such as Firework Night. There will also be the opportunity to work extra hours during holiday periods, as agreed with your Line Manager.


Salary.

The annual salary for this role is £8,252.64p.a. for the role is therefore, dependent on experience.


This is based on the number of weeks you will work multiplied by the weekly hours of work, plus your paid holiday entitlement ('Salary').


Your Salary will be divided into 12 equal instalments and will be paid monthly by direct credit to a nominated bank account on the 28th day of each month (or the nearest prior working day), with the exception of December, when payment is made on 20th December (or the nearest prior working day).


Holidays
The annual paid holiday entitlement for this role is equivalent to 5.6 weeks, inclusive of Bank Holidays. Payment for your annual leave entitlement will be included in your salary.


Pension Scheme
Eligible staff will be automatically enrolled in the School's Scottish Widows pension scheme. The minimum pension contribution from an employee is 2% of salary while the School will contribute 6%.

Staff not meeting the eligibility criteria are still able to join the pension scheme on request.

St John's College School operates an entirely optional salary exchange scheme. Anyone wishing to take advantage of this should complete the relevant request form in writing. Salary exchange for pension can be increased, decreased or stopped at any time on receipt of a written instructions. Salary exchange cannot be applied retrospectively.
