The role involves the provision of an administrative service for Histopathology reporting under the supervision of other administrators, Senior Biomedical Scientist and Consultants in the Histopathology Department.


To partake in all administration duties relating to clinical work for Consultant Pathologists and staff, including issuing reports by post, slide dispatch and keeping records, dealing with external reports and other records, taking minutes for all departmental and management meetings.


Duties require all round experience of NHS administrative systems, including the patient administration service (PAS), and in-depth knowledge of the Laboratory Information System (LIMS) as well as an excellent understanding of medical terms and phrases.


The ability to carry out an efficient and effective medical administrative service, covering all aspects of the job is vital to this role.

Familiarity with Word for Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, and audio typing is necessary for this job role. The ability to deal with telephone callers in a sensitive and calm manner is essential.

A large part of this modernisation will involve moving 70% of our services to a purpose built, state of the art Hub laboratory in the heart of London.


  • The role involves the provision of an administrative service for Histopathology reporting under the supervision of other administrators, Senior Biomedical Scientist and Consultants in the Histopathology Department.

  • The post holder requires to prepare and send out all private and NHS invoices appropriately using Oracle Fusion system.
  • To partake in all administration duties relating to clinical work for Consultant Pathologists and staff, including issuing reports by post, billing private and NHS patients, billing for the tests carried out by the department, slide dispatch and keeping records, dealing with external reports and other records, taking minutes for all departmental and management meetings.
  • The post involves taking on a medical administrative workload. Duties require all round experience of NHS administrative systems, including the patient administration service (PAS), and indepth knowledge of the Laboratory Information System (LIMS) as well as an excellent understanding of medical terms and phrases. The ability to carry out an efficient and effective medical administrative service, covering all aspects of the job is vital to this role. Familiarity with Word for Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, and audio typing is necessary for this job role. The ability to deal with telephone callers in a sensitive and calm manner is essential.
  • Managing the receipt of slides, blocks, and tissue from referring hospitals to the RBH and their return and ensuring all documentation for receipt and dispatch of organs has been completed correctly is also a vital requirement for this position.
  • To provide delivery of the Medical administrative service for Histopathology reporting and to the Consultants and staff in the Histopathology Department.
  • To deal with telephone calls, verbal messages and correspondence as required, and to ensure these are passed on to the appropriate person.
  • To ensure all case notes in your possession are properly tracked using the appropriate system.
  • To keep up to date records of all invoices as per the departmental policy and to flag any issues immediately to the service manager.
  • Ensuring all relevant departmental records are kept up to date and secure. This may include updating WinPath, EPIC Beaker, databases and spreadsheets as required.
  • Maintaining a system to ensure external reports are received and appropriately filed with the patient record and on WinPath/EPIC Beaker.
  • Assisting in arranging lectures, seminars, and scientific meetings.
