SSEN Transmission are part of the SSE Group and we own and operate the high voltage electricity network in the north of Scotland, transporting energy from where it is generated to where it is needed, providing a safe and reliable supply of electricity to the communities it serves.

Our operating area is home to some of the UK's greatest resources of renewable energy and SSEN Transmission is playing a pivotal role in the transition to a low carbon future through strategic investments across our network which will enable the deployment of homegrown and affordable low carbon power to deliver the UK and Scotland's Net Zero targets.


To support this growth, we are looking for a commercially minded Head of Dispute Resolution who is passionate and excited about our journey to join and complement the existing team.

Reporting to the Director of Legal SSEN Transmission, you will:


  • Be our lead legal business partner for Dispute Resolution activities and strategies specific to SSEN Transmission, ensuring that disputes are handled in a timely manner and in line with quality standards.
  • Work alongside the Transmission Executive Committee and their senior management team, to ensure delivery of leading Dispute resolution and avoidance strategies.
  • Bring a deeper and broader knowledge of legal, business, and practical issues pertinent to SSEN Transmission and Group and continue to develop a deeper understanding of market trends applicable to your work.
  • Foster strong working relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including the development and management of external legal panel relationships.
  • Lead by example through periods of change, setting clear and robust objectives. Empowering your team to deliver successful outcomes and make ethical based decisions.

What do I need?


You will be a credible and experienced senior legal expert with demonstrable leadership experience and an excellent understanding of dispute resolution within the energy sector.


Additionally, we are seeking:

  • A qualified solicitor, likely with c7+ years PQE coupled with a solid track record of delivering high quality and effective legal advice, including energy regulatory matters.
  • Experience of leading complex commercial and construction claims, regulatory investigations, complex planning processes (including Public Local Inquiries), compulsory purchase processes and land compensation disputes.
  • Ability to build, develop and nurture effective business partnering relationships based on trust, integrity, and the delivery of a valueadding legal service, both personally and through your team.
  • Experience of leading, managing, developing, and motivating a team in a complex and changing environment.
  • SSEN Transmission's Legal Team is an integral part of the business and works closely with our colleagues to ensure that we successfully deliver our Network for Net Zero by providing strategic legal support for key projects including planning and property requirements, legal support for regulated tender events, drafting and negotiating construction and commercial contracts and providing regulatory legal support.
