We currently have an opportunity for a Funeral Service Operative to join our dedicated team of funeral professionals based from our Care Centre in Kensington who support our communities and branches across North West London.


What Will I Be Doing as a Funeral Service Operative?


As a Funeral Service Operative, you will be at the very heart and focal point of our business, persistently delivering consistently high levels of client services to the deceased and their families.

Some of our posts will require you to assist our on-call rota at night and on the weekend, though this will be fully discussed with you throughout the recruitment process.


Other duties will include:

  • Managing all transfers of deceased into our Care Centres, Funeral Homes, Places of Worship, private residence, and any other thirdparty premises. Organising relevant documentation, and dealing with third parties (e.g., police).
  • Participate in the care of the deceased, including preparation, first rites, dressing, and encoffining as required.
  • Always maintain excellent standards of vehicle cleanliness and operating efficiency.
  • Ensure vehicles are stocked and fuelled as required and that safety checks are carried out.
  • Provide professional and respectful service delivery and maintain high standards of personal presentation, conscious that you represent Dignity, which includes the Care Centre(s) and also the individual Brand and their Branches and external stakeholders.
  • Support the Funeral Director on the day of the service, completing checks, driving and maintaining the fleet, bearing the coffin, and assisting during the ceremony.
  • You will drive, clean, and maintain funeral vehicles and will be called upon to support the Funeral Director in very specific procedures with regard to the identification of the deceased which require an eye for detail, accuracy when capturing or transferring details in writing, and a commitment to getting it right every time.
  • The role is a physical one, with a focus on teamwork, and you will be expected to be flexible with regard to the duties you undertake
  • Contribute to the maintenance of the presentation of our site and facilities; by assisting in ensuring offices, chapels, workshops, mortuaries, garages, yards, etc. are kept clean and tidy and free from hazards.
  • Participation in providing overtime (to include outofhours funeral services and transfers etc.) or holiday cover for colleagues within reason and as required.

What Do I Need?

  • A full UK driving licence (manual)
  • Good level of physical fitness, as this role will involve heavy lifting duties
  • The necessary documentation for a basic DBS, reference & driving licence check.
  • Pride in your appearance, ensuring you are always professional
