The Role


The successful individual will have delivered a sustained architecture design studio in a UK architecture school, and demonstrate creative pedagogy to support students develop, iterate, and synthesise their projects that reflect current, critical debates in the profession, the duties of the architect and climate literacy.


This must be underpinned by a strong understanding of construction material, structural, environmental technologies, and user comfort, along with a clear academic agenda.

Further, an innovative approach to design studio teaching is essential.

This role affords the opportunity to develop and define a clear pedagogical approach to design and technology in architecture, as well as curriculum development and monitoring skills, working with the Course Leaders and Head of Architecture.


This role will:


  • Set creative agendas focused on architecture and spatial design for current critical debates, whilst enhancing student's communication, representation and professional skills appropriate to the level of teaching;
  • Lead and coordinate the delivery of undergraduate design studio teaching, including lectures, seminars, and tutorials;
  • Take responsibility to ensure highquality teaching and learning;
  • To be responsible for the integration of the ARB and RIBA professional criteria in the curriculum of our undergraduate and postgraduate architecture courses;
  • Achieve and maintain learning and assessment standards that demonstrate techniques at the forefront of architecture, underpinned by the principles of climate literacy, ethical practice, and health and life safety;
  • Meet internal progression targets in accordance with institutional strategies and regulations; and
- support the Course Team in the administration, recruitment, and promotion of the Architecture courses.


Outside of the academic teaching weeks, the role will require the preparation of material, admissions and recruitment, coordination, citizenship, consultancy, as required by the Department of Architecture.

The appointed individual will work 3-days per week in the Department of Architecture throughout the calendar year. They will be required to teach students across our professionally prescribed and validated courses, and courses without professional recognition.
