Senior Ornithologist
Edinburgh/Inverness - Hybrid
£25-40k DOE
Our client, a small to medium sized consultancy, are seeking a
Senior Ornithology Consultant to join their expanding team. The role offers fully flexible, or hybrid home/office working arrangements to help balance work and family/home life.
- The main purpose of the role is to assist with ornithological reporting, to input into EIA's, CRA's and HRA's._
You will work closely with the Leadership Team and the Ornithology Technical Director to lead the team in the delivery of high-quality technical advice across a variety of critical projects in the low carbon economy.
Working in collaboration with Ecology colleagues and other environmental disciplines, you be given the opportunity to innovate and enhance our service delivery in exciting areas, including habitat restoration, positive biodiversity outcomes and nature-based solutions as well as shaping how we collect and analyse our data.
In this role you should expect to:
- Direct/manage a range of medium and large projects to deliver high-quality Environmental Impact Assessment and Habitat Regulations Appraisal services.
- Work closely with colleagues in shaping the service offering, building new ideas into useful client services.
- Build and shape stakeholder relationships with organisations such as NatureScot, Natural England, Natural Resources Wales and RSPB.
- Maintain relationships with clients.
- In collaboration with our highly respected GIS team, build on our expertise and reputation in modelling techniques, including collision risk modelling, spatial modelling, displacement analysis and population viability analysis.
- Support the Technical Director in resource and business planning, mentoring and advising junior staff and deputise as appropriate.
- Act as a 'go to' for technical advice, promoting best practice in ecological impact assessment and conservation, both internally and externally.

- A firm understanding of the relevant framework of legislation and guidance within the UK.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate on technical issues both strategically and in detail when required.
- IT skills including the use of MS Word and Excel.
- Full current driving licence.
