Description

We are looking for a senior team member who can provide:

  • high level of expertise and direction in the commissioning of services contained within the Blood and Infection programme of care's complex and important programme across the £350m of services in London.
- a link between work being undertaken nationally and making this applicable to London.
- credibility with clinical leaders in London to ensure services are compliant with national service specifications, meet the needs of Londoners and those who use London's services,
- capability and experience in service improvement in a clinical setting to support continual service improvement so that services in London have the best possible outcomes, address inequalities and are provided in the best way they can possibly be.
- good analytical insight into the services being commissioned from an activity, financial and quality metric perspective.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills in the way that they work with ICBs in the delegation of these services, to support integration across the care pathway and benefits from greater synergies in provision.
- excellent presentational ability in order to report on delivery across the multiple service areas which comprise this programme of care.

A clinical background is not a requirement but would be an advantage.


The post holder will be responsible for: - Leading the development of consistent specialised patient pathways and models for NHS England London region and strategic partners, reflecting national policy applied regionally and integration work with ICBs.

  • Work with ICBs and service providers on the implications of delegation for these services, to maximise the benefits of delegation and minimise risks of fragmentation.
  • Work to ensure that mandatory operational delivery networks within their program of care area to meet the service specification for those networks and through the networks actively add value to services, particularly when work across ICB boundaries.
  • Lead any required reconfiguration that may be required for services within this programme of care in order to meet best clinical standards in London.

From April 2023, NHS England, Health Education England and NHS Digital became one single organisation, putting workforce, data, digital and technology at the heart of our plans to transform the NHS.


Main duties continued:


  • Work with the Medical Director and Nursing Director to deliver improvements in Specialised patient outcomes.
  • Drive reform and support organisational change in the region and uptake of initiatives that support excellence. Develop and champion new initiatives or projects as necessary.
  • Ensure the national priorities are consistently translated into contracts and key planning requirements are met (including winter planning for specialised services).
  • Reporting risks and quality concerns through to the Director of Nursing for specialised services, as appropriate.
Salary progression

Applicants will commence at the bottom of Band 8c with a full-time starting salary of £78,163, with a pay step increase after 5 years' service.
