Head of HR - The Role


Fresh People are currently recruiting for a Head of HR for a recycling and waste business based in the Mid-Kent location.

With this role you will be required to develop and enforce the Company's HR Goals and Strategies, be familiar with employee relations policies and have the ability to plan, lead and manage the HR recruitment processes required in this business reporting into the Group HR Director

CIPD Qualified with minimum of 5 years evidence of continual professional development, previous experience of overseeing a busy staffing operation such as this, involved with business planning and the development of HR programs and initiatives such as recruitment, compensation, benefits, training and development, employee retention balancing best practice with people strategies
- trade union experience would be an advantage


Key duties Include

  • Represent the HR department consistently and with professionalism facing the directors and workforce with confidence and skill.
  • Oversee employee relations issues such as grievance and disciplinary cases and manage difficult cases with professionalism.
  • Establish departmental accountabilities for the range of HR functions from talent acquisition to health and safety compliance.
  • Devise recruitment strategy and oversee its implementation.
  • Coordinate remuneration policies and advise senior management on staff salaries in reference to external benchmarks.
  • Update and review HR policies, procedures and guidelines and enforce organisation values.
  • Champion a performance culture and continuously review productivity and employee development making recommendations for improvements.
  • Lead on special projects and communicate and direct on strategy and implementation.
  • Champion change initiatives getting buyin from board directors.
  • Ensure legal compliance is met in all HR activities.
  • Continuously review the responsibilities of the HR department and make bold decisions when necessary.

Previous experience

  • Held previous position of seniority, able to establish credibility and build department accountability.
  • Able to problem solve and demonstrate operational and strategic skills.
  • Experience of acting as a role model is essential and leading teams.
  • Comfortable in developing team members and empowering staff.
  • Demonstrates commercial acumen partners with the business to deliver commercially focused people strategies.
  • Managed redundancy situations and experienced in coaching managers through this and leading where necessary.
  • Evidence of having a passion for working with people and working beyond the confines of the job description.
  • Outstanding communication skills able to deliver bad news and give it a positive outlook as well as ability to influence at board level.
  • Proven organisation skills and ability to prioritise.
  • Thrives on constant change.
