Role:

The HR Officer will provide operational and administrative HR support for the whole of South SILC.

The HR Officer will model positive personal and team working attributes, working as a trusted partner providing advice and guidance as required.

The HR Officer will be the first point of contact for HR related queries on a day to day basis including HR administration, recruitment, employee relations and providing advice to managers; delivery of an exemplar confidential HR service and enabling a responsive, customer-focused provision that creates solutions to support managers with workforce planning and people management activity.

The role also forms part of the wider administration function.


HR Policy

  • First port of call for queries and advice on HR matters, policies and terms/conditions from staff/managers ensuring good practice and compliance in line with policy and legislation.
  • To assist with ensuring that the most uptodate version of HR policies & procedures are being followed and giving practical support in implementation (e.g. coaching managers or delivering briefing sessions)
  • To safeguard & promote the welfare of pupils/students through own actions and effective management of staff resources, policies & procedures, and in line with local & national protocols and statutory requirements relating to safeguarding.
  • To support with onsite staff and Trade Union communications.
  • Work collaboratively and consultatively to ensure the provision proactively supports managers, employees and key stakeholders

Casework

  • Employee relations case work (i.e. grievance, disciplinary, Inc. safeguarding, absence, capability / performance) with the support of the Business Manager on the more complex casework. The processes include organising hearings & case papers, note taking, drafting & issuing letters, occasionally conducting investigations, advising investigating officers / managers / panels at meetings / hearings.
  • Absence Management keeping accurate absence records and monitoring against absence indicators; maintaining contact with employees on long term sick, and arranging home visits / occupational health referrals / phased returns
  • Conducting risk assessments e.g. Wellbeing Action Support Plans, etc

Recruitment

  • To lead recruitment adding value and improving the process, managing HR matters arising during these. This may include review of equalities and other data; ensuring processes are in line with safer recruitment guidance, implementing best practice and quality assuring these processes.
  • Writing adverts and posting on relevant recruitment sites.
  • Recruitment administration up to and including interview day including DBS. To form part of interview panels, if required.
  • Compilation of offer letters, preemployment checks and completing necessary paperwork, ensuring adherence to the School's Safer Recruitment Policy
  • Ensuring that the induction process for new colleagues is effective.
  • Conduct exit interviews
  • Provide the Governing Body and Leadership Teams with timely and accurate information to enable them to fulfil their responsibilities.
  • Undertake specific responsibilities relating to HR across the SILC this may be by attending relevant SLT meetings and preparing HR related communications to staff.
  • Working as part of the wider Administration Team, taking the lead on some SILC wide activities e.g. project work to support the SILC plan or to develop an area of work SILC wide.

General

  • To manage the personnel data administration for South SILC staff
  • Maintain staff data on the school's MIS system (SIMS)
  • Complete and return the statutory Workforce Census.
  • Assist with volunteer and student placement paperwork.
  • Process relevant personnel paperwork, e.g. contract chang
