Overall purpose

Our TEDLab (Transformative Educational Digital Laboratory) allows RCL to be more ambitious with its primary strategic teaching, learning and assessment aims including:

  • Graduates entering employment, have the latest, directly transferable, digital skills to satisfy the requirements of employers.
  • Students have the opportunity to gain added value employerled project and placement experiences.
The post holder will focus on sourcing employer-led projects and work placements that can utilise TEDLab.

This includes being responsible for developing and enhancing relationships with employers to generate additional work opportunities for students and graduates.

The post-holder will also help to develop relationships with larger regional, national and international employers to secure further vacancies and opportunities for students to engage and gain experience, as well as creating commercial revenue stream to support TEDLab in the longer term.


A key focus will be to ensure that all students, regardless of background, have fair access to work experience and graduate employment opportunities.

This will include working with employers to encourage equality of access.


The post holder will be responsible for the establishment, implementation & co-ordination of all administrative processes, which will include identifying and recording student placements to be considered for approval in addition to placement allocations, administration of audits and recording of mentors/employer's information.


This will be a varied, interesting, and challenging role, which will require flexibility, the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and the ability to priorities to meet deadlines to the required quality standards.


Specific duties and responsibilities


1) Work in partnership with SoEC team (Head/Deputy Head of School and Programme Leaders) to agree on processes to establish a range of employer based projects and placements.

This will include close liaison with employers and programmes leaders to identify and agree appropriate projects and/or placements.

2) To pro-actively develop and maintain employer links, with a view to establishing new and repeating sources of employer based projects and work placement opportunities that would utilise TEDLab.

3) Establish and maintain channels of communication with all employers to maximise utilisation of
TEDLab and students' engagement with employer based projects and placements. Develop and implement systems (i.e., risk assessment) to assist the monitoring of projects and placement allocations, and capacity requirements.

4) Co-ordinate administrative processes relating to the allocation and recording of practice placements for all SoEC students.

5) Maintenance of student records databases for SOBE placements related operations, including provision of accurate statistical data for internal and external requirements, and maintenance of paper records, where appropriate. Co-ordinate the collection of data as required.

6) Co-ordinate the provision of accurate advice to staff and students on placement related matters.
Provide a 'one-stop' shop for SOBE placement queries for both placement areas and faculty staff.


7) Co-ordinate the processes for tracking, monitoring, and recording (carrying out DBS procedures when required) all information relating to SOBE practice placement Audits.

8) Liaise with internal and external bodies, such as admissions team, enrolment team, Academic
Registry, Careers and Employability services etc. on various matters relating to the provision within the faculty, ensuring effective and efficient communication systems are maintained.

9) Service internal and external SOBE Placement related meetings, as required, through the production and distribution of relevant documentation and through attending and minuting meetings.

10) Contribute to reviews and evaluations of processes and systems, ensuring the provision of a cost
- effective high-quality service, writing reports when required.

11) Work independently with minimum without direct supervision, delegating and prioritising workload as appropriate.

12) Undertake relevant administrative duties as required by the role.

13) Attend and participate in meetings and working groups as appropriate, including representing department and Faculty, when required.
