Our neonatal service is the largest neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) service within North West London.

As the pioneering UK-wide centre for therapeutic hypothermia neonates we treat more than 1000 babies per year from all over the country at risk from irreversible brain injury.


Our neonatal unit provides care to high risk, critically ill neonates, and integrating the family into care is one of our guiding principles.

This supports parents in becoming partners in care, participating in providing active care for their baby with the help of competency based training, support and education.


  • To support and develop Neonatal Nurses on the Neonatal Pathway to attain "Qualified in Speciality" status through facilitation in clinical practice and promotion / implementation of relevant education and development pathways
  • To facilitate acquisition of the necessary skills, knowledge and competency by staff and their mentors in designated areas within the trust
  • To promote and facilitate implementation of evidence based nursing practice
  • To work collaboratively with own team and wider PDF network to develop and deliver practice development projects and programmes locally and trustwide
  • To work in accordance with Imperial College Nursing and Midwifery Strategy and Core Standards and contribute towards achieving the Trust's Objectives
  • To promote and facilitate the provision of a high standard of holistic patientcentred care
