We have an exciting new opportunity in Maternity at Somerset Foundation Trust.


We are looking for an experienced midwife to join our team as the Safety & Quality Lead working at both Musgrove Park Hospital & Yeovil District Hospital - with a portfolio specifically focused on leading effective governance management, assurance, audit, patient experience and quality improvement.


This new role will work in conjunction with our current Governance Lead Midwives at both sites focused on patient safety, and will support the overall continued delivery of high-quality, safe and responsive maternity care.

The post is advertised at 1.0WTE hours per week on a 12 month fixed term contract.


As a Lead Midwife you will have a strong ethos of women-centred care, and an ability to independently identify areas for improvement, engage colleagues and drive action, understand the principles of compliance and assurance, and work closely alongside the midwifery, obstetric, anaesthetic and neonatal teams to ensure a high-quality, responsive maternity service.


You will be responsible for ensuring we have robust, evidence-based and effective clinical guidelines, which are up-to-date and compliant with national standards.

Lead on delivering a programme of assurance and audit, benchmarking in line with regional and national requirements such as those related to CQC, NHS Resolution, and local programmes of accreditation.


You will be a highly visible clinical leader, guiding and supporting to ensure women's choices are respected, and that their outcomes are to the highest possible standard.

You will provide line management to key staff relevant to your role

Your role will be key in supporting delivery of high quality, safe care and positive experiences for our women and families, and also for our staff.

As an experienced midwife you will have excellent knowledge of both midwife-led and complex maternity care pathways, and will use this knowledge to coordinate and inform our response to complaints and patient feedback activity.


You will work with our teams to enable a culture of kindness and compassion, and develop systems and processes that enhance our ability to deliver effective care.

You will also be an inspirational and experienced leader, used to delivering on expected performance targets with a positive approach to challenge.
