We're currently recruiting for a Programme Planner to join our Change Function to support large complex programmes and portfolios of work, in out With Profits area.

This involves working closely with senior delivery leads and SMEs in complex environments to develop programme plans, understanding fully the key milestones and path to achievement of outcomes, to clarity on dependencies both within and outside the programme.

Able to summarise at all levels and work alongside project managers / SMEs to understand the key steps to delivery.

The Programme Planner will have ownership of the integrated programme level plans, ensuring key controls and measures are in place to drive timely and appropriate decision making.

In some instances, there may be some line management involved of other planners dependent on scope of area.


Successful applicants will be able to quickly grasp an understanding of complex Life & Pensions programmes, able to facilitate scoping and planning workshops with senior stakeholders, and have expert knowledge of integrated plans within MSP.


Key Responsibilities

Working as part of a team of programme planners, reporting into the Senior Portfolio Planning Manager, you will work directly with the programme team / delivery lead to:

Set up and embed the planning standards and assurance activities for your area, adhering to the planning standards and working with the project and programme management to help develop and mature best practice.


Develop the integrated portfolio plan for the areas of your responsibility (eg, With Profits projects and programmes), understanding fully the level 0-2 milestones and appropriate dependencies.


Work with a number of senior delivery leads and project managers to help develop detailed (Level 3 or 4) plans within Microsoft Project, ensuring consistency and alignment to standards.


Provide oversight, guidance and support to project and programme managers on plan development and plan management, ensuring appropriate governance is effectively in place.


Actively contribute to the change function within Phoenix through ensuring compliance with standards and, where feasible, working to improve the overall portfolio through continuous improvement and participation in planning team activities.


Facilitate planning workshops as appropriate to drive identification of key milestones, the critical path, dependencies, and planning risks and assumptions.


Create, maintain and present executive-level MI for senior internal and external stakeholders, including, but not limited to, programme / portfolio roadmap, Life Management Board milestone tracker, steering group and board reporting.


Create and maintain the relevant critical path(s) and other plan outputs to produce MI to inform and advise governance forums as appropriate.

Create and manage dependency maps that can feed into the wider Portfolio and/or Enterprise dependency map.

Ensure intra-project and external dependencies are identified by project managers, and agreed and tracked through to completion with the dependent party.

Provide oversight - challenge and validity of dependencies.


Where required, provide development to Project Managers on the use of Microsoft Project for the development and maintenance of complex project and programme plans.

Capture planning lessons learned, ensuring these are incorporated into planning standards and templates, where appropriate.

Provide guidance and oversight for the identification and tracking of milestones and planning assumptions in SmartCore (PPM tool).

The level of this role carries an expectation of line management responsibility.

If you are required to line manage, you will provide day to day support and guidance to individuals including performance reviews and development.
