(Full Time - 37 hours per week)


About the role.
An opportunity has arisen for a Planning Officer within the Spatial Planning team.

We are at an early stage in next review of the Local Plan - following the adoption of Making Spaces for Growing Places, a site allocations plan, in February 2021, which sits under the Joint Core Strategy and Urban Core Plan (adopted in March You will join us as work progresses on this, along with other planning documents and evidence.

The role will involve helping prepare the Council's Local Plan and associated planning policy documents.

This will include assembling key evidence for the Local Plan including flood risk and water management, and helping to ensure effective monitoring and consultation.


You will also be required to undertake any administrative procedures necessary for the smooth progression of the Local Plan and other spatial planning documents.

You must have knowledge and experience of

  • Spatial Planning including good knowledge of the plan preparation process and associated legislation
  • Undertaking research, analysing data and preparing evidence on environmental issues including flood risk and water management, which will inform the development of planning policy and climate emergency initiatives which you will be involved with
  • Monitoring and data management, and helping to set up digital platforms
  • Working independently as well as part of a team
  • Writing reports and presentations, providing good customer focus and helping to organize and undertake consultation exercises
  • IT systems including Microsoft Office suite
  • Organisational and time management skills

You must have the following qualifications.

  • Working towards or holding a degree in Town Planning, Geography or equivalent
  • A willingness to undertake any additional corporate training as
