This role will sit within the GCO, but based in our DLUHC commercial team delivering departmental objectives.


Job description:

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a small, dynamic, customer-focused team leading commercial engagement across
- a wide range of stakeholders, including service users, Ministers, policy groups, suppliers and arm's length bodies
- a variety of projects including high-profile, complex, strategic procurements.
- a range of Contract Management processes and categories of contract spend e.g. IT, Consultancy, Professional Services, Financial Services, Construction and Research.

We have 2 x Commercial Lead roles on offer, working primarily in the Safer Greener Buildings Directorate

You'll play an important role in embedding clear processes and ways of working helping shape the future of the Commercial function in DLUHC.

Within your category you'll have a broad commercial remit as well as the freedom to manage your community of day-to-day service delivery managers in delivery of strategically important commercial activities across this innovative Department.


Person specification:


  • Deliver the contract management strategy for a range of complex, high value and/or strategically important contracts, feeding directly into design and delivery alongside policy, commercial, analytical, legal, and finance colleagues
  • Lead on customer relationships and relationship management, providing commercial leadership and advice to the day to day operational contract managers
  • Ensure the department fully complies with contract management requirements and manages contracts for in line with best practise, functional standards and Department policies and procedures
  • Champion the role of contract management within DLUHC, developing effective relationships with key departmental stakeholders to ensure early engagement in departmental initiatives requiring a procurement or wider commercial angle
  • Provide sound commercial advice to a range of stakeholders, including development and scrutiny of business cases
  • Design and implement appropriate contract strategies and commercial models that deliver value for money solutions and, where relevant, incorporate key commercial policies (e.g. Small and Medium Enterprises; Social Value)
  • Support the wider initiatives in the Department to improve commercial capability.
