We are looking for a Head of Amparo with a passion for developing strategic partnerships to improve the lives of people bereaved by suicide.

£39,571 to £42,614 per annum (due to rise in April 2023 to £41,496 to £44,539)

The Role


The Head of Amparo (Suicide Bereavement Service) will be an experienced senior executive, with a passion for developing strategic partnerships to improve the lives of people bereaved by suicide.

They will confidently continue to build the profile of the Amparo brand nationally, firmly establishing it as the leading provider of suicide bereavement postvention and counselling services.


The Head of Amparo (Suicide Bereavement Service) will act as the link between Amparo and local coronial services, local and national Police forces, the National Suicide Prevention Alliance, the Support After Suicide Partnership, Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide and commissioners of our services, as well as with other senior level stakeholders.

They will therefore be an excellent communicator, verbally, in writing and in presentations, with a proven ability to influence others to change or grow policies and practices.


The Head of Amparo (Suicide Bereavement Service) will have a good understanding of recognised models of support for those bereaved by suicide and research that informs these (both in the UK and elsewhere) and how these fit with suicide reduction strategies.

They will support the Development Team to develop content to raise new income for Amparo and will lead on mobilising projects once new contracts have been secured.


Main areas of responsibility include:


  • To ensure the smooth running of the whole Amparo service across a national footprint with particular reference to beneficiary safety and contract compliance
  • To contribute to the national strategic development of postvention services
  • To provide linemanagement and annual appraisals to a team of staff (currently a minimum of 5 and maximum of 7) located across the country, overseeing their development.
  • To cascade any supervisory concerns to the Head of Clinical Services
  • To lead on the mobilisation of new contracts
  • To coordinate and facilitate regular team meetings for your staff
  • To provide leadership, consultation and expertise to staff in the delivery of openage suicide bereavement care with an ability to advise on a wide range of presenting issues
  • To lead on the improvement and development of our suicide bereavement services and client pathways
  • To work with the Quality and Compliance Team to ensure staff are adhering to all policies, procedures and process maps, recording information accurately and as required, to ensure compliance
  • With support from the internal HR Manager, to lead on dealing with HR issues that arise within the team

About You


We are looking for someone with the passion and organisational skills to continue with the development of the AMPARO service.

This will require operating at a local/regional and national level, and a widespread knowledge of postvention service development.

In addition, the role requires excellent managerial skills working with staff across a wide area and building and developing people within the AMPARO team.
