The Directorate is part of the Division of Planned Care

The ENT Department at the West Middlesex Hospital provides inpatient day surgery and outpatient services for the surrounding area. It serves the patients of Richmond, Twickenham, Brentford, Hounslow, Chiswick and adjacent areas.

The ENT Department is a very busy and rapidly growing department. A large and fully comprehensive range of services are provided by the team attracting increasing referrals annually. The Department has worked to gain strong support from the Community and General Practitioners in the area.

There is a very good and friendly working relationship with other specialities in the hospital with many interesting referrals originating from a number of medical and surgical specialities.

Over 90% of the surgery performed in the ENT Department is on a day surgical basis. This involves adult and paediatric care.

The Inpatients are nursed on one of two wards and the average length of stay for the inpatients is approximately one night.

The Department treats ENT surgical paediatric cases from the age of one and upwards.

The Consultant appointed will have continuing responsibility for the care of the patients in his/her charge and for the proper functioning of the ENT Department.

The Consultant appointed will cover absence by arrangement with his/her colleagues.

The Consultant will take an active role in the teaching programme and research activities of the Unit and would be responsible for assisting and maintaining the ENT Library requirements.

He/she will participate in clinical audit within the ENT Department and the hospital as a whole.

A monthly ENT Clinical Management and audit meeting occurs in the Department followed by an academic session in which research and audit studies are discussed.

We're also one of the top trusts to work for - our staff say they're engaged, motivated, and would recommend us as a place to work and receive treatment.

In 2020 Trust was rated by the Care Quality Commission as Outstanding in the well-led and use of resources domains and Good in the safe, effective, caring, and responsive domains.

The Trust as a whole was Good, but the Chelsea site was Outstanding.

Our facilities are some of the best in the country. We have been investing around £10 million a year in our estate.

We are currently spending £25 million on expanding our adult and neonatal critical care facilities at Chelsea and Westminster and redevelopment of our children's unit at West Middlesex - in partnership with our charity, CW+ and generous donors.
