Description

Are you a forward-thinking senior nurse with a proven record in palliative/end of life care and experience of managing teams?:

  • Do you share our vision of a community where no-one should die in pain or distress?:
-
Have you got the passion, skills and personal qualities to lead a team dedicated to making a difference to local families at the most difficult time of their lives?

If the answer is yes, and our charity's values of professionalism, compassion, respect and integrity match your own, then joining St Luke's Hospice Plymouth as our Head of Inpatient (IPU) Nursing Service could be one of the most life-enhancing moves you ever make.
Renowned as a trailblazer among hospices, we are as innovative and influential as we are compassionate.

We pioneered the
integrated approach to specialist palliative care that's since been widely adopted by many other hospices, delivering high-quality seamless care for patients at home, in hospital and in hospice settings.

For this key strategic role in our multidisciplinary IPU team at Turnchapel, Plymouth, we are seeking a visible, approachable and inspirational leader who demonstrates our hospice vision, values and service equity at all times.

Our IPU team prides itself on providing palliative and end of life care of the highest standard for patients with complex care needs, relieving their pain and maintaining their dignity.

As a result, the IPU enjoys a particularly good nurse to patient ratio (typically 1:3) to support this standard of care. As Head of IPU Nursing Service, you will have input into our Community Palliative Care Team, too, and support the wider health and social care system with projects such as end of life (EoL) system co-ordination and community bed management.

While the work our nurses do is highly rewarding, emotionally is can be very tough, so you will need the resilience and sensitivity to support your colleagues as well as the families in your care.

Significant management experience and willingness to progress to Advanced Nurse Practitioner/Consultant Nurse is a must, along with Non-Medical Prescriber if not already attained.

St Luke's has an E-Pharmacy programme in place for electronic prescribing and stock balance, so experience of similar systems is desirable.

We recognise and value our staff and volunteers, who together as
one big team make a vital difference to patients and their families when it matters most.

Plus, there's our stunning coastal location in South West Devon, boasting some of the most beautiful countryside in the UK.

You'll benefit from excellent opportunities to develop your skills, plus the chance to continue membership of the NHS Pension Scheme for existing members.

Working with us, you will receive an attractive employment package:

seven weeks' annual leave (including bank holidays) rising with service, free onsite parking, and membership of a cashback health plan.

Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced clearance will be required for this post.
We would encourage informal discussions regarding this post with the Deputy Director of Clinical Services, Tricia Davis

PLEASE NOTE, we will close this vacancy before the final date should we receive a high level of applicants.

Closing Date: 29 August 2023
