Hearing Aid Audiology Programme Leader

1.0 FTE / 35 Hours per week; Grade 8, £41, £52,841.00

Hybrid role:
at least 3 days per week onsite


Who we're looking for:

You will have proven knowledge and experience in hearing aid audiology and be passionate about teaching and learning.

We are seeking an exceptional individual to support us on our journey to becoming the provider of choice for healthcare programmes in the region.

Do you want to help to shape the future of the audiology profession by advancing the knowledge and skills of students and apprentices? If so, we want to hear from you Applicants must have strong team working skills, in addition to strong written and verbal communication skills.

You will need to be qualified to at least degree level, and/or hold comprehensive experience and an understanding of the wider sector.

You must be registered with the HCPC and/or RCCP as either an Audiologist or Hearing Aid Dispenser.


What you'd be doing:


You will be responsible for ensuring that the programme meets the highest standards of quality, and that students receive the necessary knowledge and skills to provide excellent care for patients with hearing loss.

You will play a crucial role in ensuring that students receive effective and safe learning experiences and that they are prepared to enter the audiology profession with the necessary competency to thrive.


Responsibilities of this post will include:

  • Developing and updating the programme to ensure that is aligned with the latest advancements in the field.
  • Designing and implementing learning resources, simulation scenarios and clinical activities, that meet the needs of students and apprentices, and that provide them with the knowledge and skills they need to provide highquality care to patients with hearing loss.
  • Creating effective instructional strategies and approaches to support learners in meeting programme objectives.
  • Supporting studentled highquality audiology and microsuction clinics to patients, including hearing assessments, fitting and dispensing hearing aids, counselling, and followup care.
  • Providing support and guidance to students, answering questions and addressing concerns, and offering feedback and suggestions for improvement.
  • Working with other professionals in the school to develop and implement innovative educational resources that advance the field.
  • Staying uptodate with the latest advancements in audiology and pursuing professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.

Problem-solving:enjoy finding creative solutions to complex problems. You will need to be able to think critically and make sound decisions, both in the classroom and in the clinic.

Continuous learning: Audiology is a constantly evolving field, with new technologies and techniques emerging all the time. You should have a passion for learning and staying up to date with the latest research and advancements in the field.

Collaboration:enjoy working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals and stakeholders, including nurses, osteopaths, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, and hearing aid manufacturers, to improve patient care and advance the field of audiology.

Where you'll work:


In this role, you'll be based in the Nursing, Health Sciences team within the School of Health and Wellbeing, on our green campus in the north of Plymouth.

The School of Health and Wellbeing is the largest school in the University, delivering a broad range of health programmes including courses leading to professional registration, healthcare apprenticeships and a portfolio of CPD and short courses at UG and PG levels.
