Hours of Work:36.25 hours per week (hours will include some evening and weekend work, On-Call rota and some unsociable hours)

Main responsibilities:


To support the Community Services Manager in delivering the Criminal Justice Outreach and Housing Support Services through the management of staff and in holding a small caseload of service users who are at high risk of causing harm and/or offending behaviours.

The Team Leader will provide support and guidance to the teams to enable them to:

- achieve positive outcomes, delivering person-centred care and support on an intensive basis to reduce offending behaviour, support and manage the re-integration of service users into society, develop pro-social connections, develop coping strategies to improve health and wellbeing, develop life skills to enable them to sustain their tenancy.


The Team Leader will carry out inductions and mentoring of staff, supervise support practitioners and deputising on behalf of management as required with responsibilities such as directly supervising support practitioners and attending multi-agency meetings and working closely with the Criminal Justice Social Work (CJSW) Team.

Job activities

  • Work with Service delivery teams and provide support and monitoring of staff while undertaking their duties in the community in accordance with the requirements of Aberdeen Cyrenians and the CJSW Team.
  • Ensuring the appropriate risk assessments are in place for all activities carried out and monitoring as required, ensuring compliance to licence conditions, reporting any and all breaches of these immediately and as directed.
  • Form, develop and maintain relationships with service users, hold a small caseload and key working responsibilities for Service Users to reduce offending behaviour, support reintegrate into society, promote citizenship and sustain their tenancy.
  • Engage with and support the staff team with developing care plans and achieving positive outcomes for service users to support and assist in their community reintegration.
  • To monitor and maintain service user records, submitting them as instructed to the CJSW Case Manager, Police and other Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) partners as appropriate.
  • To encourage staff teams to empower service users to make appropriate practical arrangements regarding accommodation, use of time, employment, education and training needs.
  • Assess and review service users' circumstances through accurate & appropriate information gathering and support practice improvements where required. Ensure staff team are meeting the needs and identified supports of service users.
  • Assist staff teams in their engagement with service users and in identifying external sources of support, to engage with other agencies in relation to improving their lifestyle (including accommodation situation, economic wellbeing, health, quality of life, practical skills, social functioning, general outlook and reduction in risk taking behaviours).

Assist staff to:
- work with service users who are experiencing challenges relating to substance misuse/mental health issues using a harm minimisation approach and engage the support of other agencies as required.

  • Advocate on service users' behalf and generally assist them with communication issues. Work with service users to tackle debts, to manage budgets and maximise their income.
  • Ensure that services users' views remain paramount and ensure that potential obstacles such as literacy & numeracy are assessed and addressed.
  • Intervene in a crisis to effectively preempt and/ or deescalate accidents and incidents.
