We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated Ward Leader with a strong interest in Elderly Care, keen enthusiasm to develop others, be able to provide expert clinical, management, professional leadership that promotes and maintain high standards of good practice.


Wandle 3 is a 28 bedded ward with outstanding reputation for innovation and excellent care for older people under the Elderly Care Team.

The ward is also an excellent learning environment to acquire knowledge and skills in care for older people with various medical conditions.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated nurse to develop their management and leadership potential.

You will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to promote a collaborative approach to caring for acutely unwell, frail elderly patients, and able to work in a busy and challenging environment.


You will have the ability to drive forward the highest quality of care to patients, have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to collaborate across professional boundaries whilst also working autonomously to meet quality standards, deadlines and targets.

Interviews: 27th July 2023

The ward manager has 24-hour responsibility for the management of the ward team.

In partnership with the Matron and Associate Director of Nursing, the ward manager will ensure that patient care is delivered to standards detailed in the Performance Management Framework and the Nursing Strategy.

The ward manager will liaise with the Matron and Associate Director of Nursing regarding financial management issues. Job summary include;

Ensure the safe and effective distribution of nursing staff on ward duty rotas that reflect the needs of the service, taking into account the variations in workload and patient dependency.

Ensure that annual leave is effectively managed and that accurate records are maintained.


Ensure that ward rotas take into account staff development and support such as Clinical Supervision, Link Nurse Meetings, teaching Sessions and ward meetings.


Ensure that action is taken to operate within funded establishment, reporting any anticipated over spend to Associate Director of Nursing.

Complete monitoring forms for staff sickness/absence and agency/bank usage as requested by Matron.

Ensure all staff have an appraisal and Personal Development Plan undertaken after 6 months in post and yearly thereafter. This should reflect and address the requirements of their present post and provide opportunity for further development.

Undertake case reviews following serious incidents that occur in the clinical area reporting findings to the Matron.
