Development and Housing Directorate - Preston is at an unprecedented stage in its development. With over £20m of Towns Fund grant, major leisure and public realm projects underway, a new commercial quarter planned at Preston station and the ongoing implementation of the multi-award-winning City Living Strategy alongside the delivery of thousands of new homes and major infrastructure investment and delivery through the City Deal, Preston has developed a new confidence for positive change.

Preston was jointly commended as the Royal Town Planning Institute's Planning Authority Team of the Year 2021 and we are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and well organised individual to take up a temporary Enforcement Officer role within the Development Management team.

You will undertake and assist with the investigation of alleged breaches of planning control, negotiate improvements where formal enforcement action may not be expedient, and pursue formal action where necessary.

Enforcement action includes writing and serving enforcement notices, dealing with some appeals and working with our Legal team to secure prosecution through the Courts, where necessary.

You will need to assist in the preparation and delivery of formal and informal reports to management, including recommendations for appropriate action, whilst demonstrating a confidence in dealing with difficult situations and be able to communicate effectively with the public.

As this is a customer facing role you will need to have excellent communication skills as you will be dealing with the general public and you will need to be confident in your ability to deal with a wide range of stakeholders and difficult situations where you will need to convey complex, detailed information.

The successful applicant must be customer focussed, a team player with demonstrable experience of effective enforcement work either within the planning profession or in another profession where your skills will be transferrable.

As an employer we like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of employee benefits including flexi time, a minimum of 30 days' annual leave (plus Bank Holidays), family friendly policies, access to an Employee Assistance Programme, Local Government Pension Scheme, AVC's, life assurance scheme, payment of professional fees, discounted parking, cycle to work scheme and discounted bus and rail fares.
