THE BUSINESS
Westray Recruitment Group is seeking an experienced Maintenance Shift Supervisor to work a 2-shift pattern on a permanent contract. This role is based in the Durham area. The position will see you work within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
The business is family owned and its roots stretch back over 180 years.

They are an international business and they are going through an incredible period of growth both through market demand and via acquisition.

The site at Gateshead has received well over £4 million of investment in recent weeks, through the installation of new state of the art production lines and new machinery.

THE ROLE
You will be responsible for the efficient and effective organisation of a small team of engineers.

Reporting to the Site Manger / Group Maintenance manager, you will be responsible for planning and distributing tasks to ensure planned maintenance is achieved for the mills to run effectively.

To work safely at all times complying with and using (safe systems of work using permit systems, method statement, dynamic risk assessments ).

To efficiently and effectively fault find / diagnose technical / process issues
To coordinate and cooperate with production supervision on a day-to-day basis to ensure smooth running of plant and equipment
To resolve breakdown issues with mínimal impact to production.
To identify process and equipment improvement opportunities (maintenance schedules and equipment capability / reliability).
To be flexible in attendance to complete activities.
To follow instructions provided by site management / supervisors.
To maintain a clean and tidy work area at all times.
To be a proactive team member.
Improving technical skills and knowledge at all times.

To be IT competent and be able to complete shift reports detailing all relevant information to ensure continuation and / or review of repair.

Some overtime working is expected
To have some fabrication / welding skills
TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES / REQUIREMENTS
Ability to interpret electrical drawings.
Fault finding skills on automation systems.
Experience with AC/DC drives.
Understanding of PLC's.
18thedition IEE reg's Desirable.
Able to test & inspect fixed wiring & equipment installations.
Cable & Containment selection experience.
Install, Build/rebuild of equipment projects.
Site & equipment (electrical) responsibility.

THE PERSON
Recognised engineering apprenticeship or similar qualification.

  • 5 years' engineering experience gained working within a manufacturing environment.
Experience in PPM and fault finding on hydraulics and pneumatics systems on modern machinery and equipment.
Electrical knowledge
Using computer systems.
Sound maintenance / engineering experience in a production environment, ideally a heavy engineering environment.
