Specialist Dietitian

ELFT is recruiting a Specialist Dietitian to join the Forensics team.

The post-holder will join other Dietitians in the Forensics setting to collaborate to deliver the strategic and clinical workstreams, including service development and quality improvement projects, clinical input for complex cases, and supervision for junior staff.

Working closely both with the Forensics professionals and the wider ELFT Dietitians, there is a strong emphasis on continued professional development and peer support throughout the trust.

We hope to offer this exciting, novel post to an ambitious Dietitian who wants to broaden their skill set and address dietary health inequalities in this field.


  • Complete full assessment of patient's nutritional status, using appropriate anthropometric, biochemical and medical records and identify their nutritional requirements.
  • Devise core and specialist nutritional treatment plans e.g. diabetes, weight reducing, food intolerance, disordered eating and dysphagia.
Collaborating closely with colleagues to manage medical risk, which may be severe.

  • Implement specialist group and individual treatments to achieve treatment goals
  • Communicate with patients, using the most appropriate verbal, written or pictorial method, in a way that respects their view, autonomy and culture.
  • Translate key nutritional messages into simple ideas and language that can be easily understood by the client group.
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the clinical team and share information with the team members formally and informally.
  • Ensure the menu meets the cultural, religious and health needs of all our client groups.
  • Ensure that the food choices meet National Nutritional Standards
  • Undertakes administrative tasks in relation to own work.
