Job overview

First things first - what is Procurement & Supply Chain (P&SC)?

"Procurement and Commercial is a business management function that identifies, sources, accesses and manages the external resources (materials, services and equipment) that an organisation needs to fulfil its strategic objectives" - Commercial Manager

Our P&C function is responsible for implementing and managing contractual requirements with TfL's supply base of over three thousand suppliers, accounting for roughly £6bn spend per year.

Following the financial challenges we have recently faced it's never been more important to be prudent with our money and understanding our contracts.

As well as procuring key services on behalf of the Greater London Authority (GLA) functional bodies (including the Metropolitan Police and London Fire Brigade), P&C also engages closely with the Mayor's office and London Boroughs on major capital projects and operating contracts across the Capital.

We also work with Network Rail when it is appropriate to align our practices and approach to the market.

As a function for both the GLA and TfL P&C purchases products and resources including new trains, hydrogen buses, sponsorship and advertising, catering and cleaning, CCTV, electricity, trains, line upgrades and station upgrades.

As an apprentice, your two year development programme will be made up of up to four placement rotations. Our aim is to equip you with the range of skills and experience you need for your successful career. We also understand that everyone's career is different, so every apprentice's journey is unique.

Here's an idea of the type of placements on offer:

Where can this career take me?

One thing is true of all businesses; Commercial Procurement is a vital activity and will always be required, meaning that this apprenticeship is an excellent foundation for a successful career.
