About the employer
Abbey Wood Grange is a private day nursery and Pre School located in South Croydon. They offer exceptional quality care for babies and children aged between 3 months and 5 years.

Established in 1990, they operate from an extended three storey house, situated on a private road within tree lined grounds.

The aim of the nursery is to provide a happy, secure, safe and stimulating environment for children, while encouraging them to develop socially, emotionally, physically, intellectually and spiritually.


About the job role


Abbey Wood Grange are currently looking for an individual who is passionate about working with children and supporting their development.

The successful individual will complete their Level 2 Early Years Practitioner apprenticeship.

Duties include:


  • To work the shift everyday as arranged by the Nursery and ensure that you report in at least 10 minutes before your shift starts.
  • To attend college/via online or in person if required to do so one day per week and to adhere to their rules and regulations.
  • To be responsible for planning and recoding Tapestry observations knowing your key children to be able to clearly identify age and stage of development. Be able to clearly communicate the intent of the day and how this impacts the child.
  • To have daily conversations with the key staff in your room to ensure suitable activities have been planned for in line with the EYFS and that the children's developmental needs are met. (if this is required of you and/or you have received relevant training)
  • To support Nursery Assistants and Room Leaders to supervise the children indoors (including snack/mealtimes) and outdoors during play time and other activities and deploy staff effectively around play areas/equipment and to be aware of the children's health, safety and security at all times.
  • To help assist the Nursery Nurse in maintaining the registers as well as confidentiality at alltimes and ensuring the safe keeping of such documents.
  • To help maintain a nonracial and nonsexist environment at all times considering different diets and religious practices, respect and value all colleagues, children and parents, encouraging a positive and diverse working environment.
  • To inform the Manager/ Designated Safeguarding Officer or Deputy or Senior Member on duty of any concerns of the welfare or safety of a child.
  • To help ensure that the room is kept clean, tidy and well stocked and to provide a pleasant and safe environment for both children and staff. This applies to all areas of the nursery including the Staff Room, Parent Area, Romp Room and Nappy Changing Areas.
  • To help/record accidents/incidents in detail on the Accident/incident Form if this was witnessed by yourself.
  • To work as part of the larger nursery team assisting and supporting colleagues wherever required in order to ensure the smooth running of the nursery.
  • Commitment outside of working hours include training, staff meetings and special events.
  • To follow any rotas introduced and to work as a team with other members of nursery staff to ensure the efficiency of such.
  • To book any Annual Leave in advance (Christmas Week and Bank Holidays are inclusive of your holiday entitlement)

Training to be provided:

Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard
Functional Skills English and Maths if required.

Working in partnership with the employer, apprentices will be provided with 'on the job' and 'off the job' training during their paid working hours.

£16,500pa - £21,000pa
